Howard Dean: Democrats Should Reach Out To Young Evangelicals

May 11, 2007 6:28 a.m. EST

Christopher Rizo - AHN Staff Writer San Francisco, CA (AHN) - Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said Thursday that his party should welcome into the political fold young evangelical Christian voters who feel disenfranchised from the Grand Ole Party.

"We ought to reach out to those folks ... and not be afraid,'' Dean told an audience of about 125 at a DNC fundraiser Wednesday night, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Dean told the group gathered at the swank Palace Hotel that in the wake of the 2006 midterm election nearly 30 percent of evangelical Christians now see themselves as Democratic voters, up 10 percentage points from the previous election, the paper said.

Dean credited the increase to the party's organized outreach.

"We went out and advertised on Christian broadcast networks ... because in the evangelical movement, young people are changing America -- and they're changing the evangelical movement.''

He added: "People don't want to go to church anymore ... and come out feeling bad because they happen to know somebody who's gay. People want to go to church because they know what they can do about poverty, about Darfur, about the environment.''

During a June 2005 visit to San Francisco, the former Vermont governor and presidential candidate said that Republicans are "a monolithic party. They all behave the same. They all look the same. It's pretty much a white Christian party."

This is perfect in our Bizarro world. The party that encourages that babies killed in the womb, the party that wants gays to enjoy the official sanctity of marriage, the party that was led by a perjuring rapist, the party of an impeached judge, the party of a guy with bribe money in his freezer, the party of "the b*tch set me up," the party that mocks religion at every opportunity ----- THAT IS THE PARTY THAT WANTS TO REACH OUT TO EVANGELICALS.

Yes, that is exactly what I want. These radical, vicious liberal democrats reaching out to my 23 year old daughter. A daughter that my husband and I took great care to raise with morals, principals and conservative values. A daughter that after much conversation understands the differences between these despicable people and conservatives.

Yes, that is exactly what I want. NOT.

“People don’t want to go to church anymore ... and come out feeling bad because they happen to know somebody who’s gay. People want to go to church because they know what they can do about poverty, about Darfur, about the environment.’’

They just don’t get it at all.

People go to church to worship God.

I cannot believe what an idiot Dean is. Incredible. Oh my...

People want to go to church because they know what they can do about poverty, about Darfur, about the environment.

Oh my... I cannot believe what an idiot... Hey! Wait! I said that already.

Dear Howard Dean,

You’d better just stick to pandering to gang bangers, butt bangers, and drug bangers, ‘cause they are your natural constituencies!

Ya gotta understand Doug, Howard Dean wouldn’t know an Evangelical Christian if he trip over one in the street. Old Howard thinks an Evangelical is like being in the Rotory Club or the Audubon Society. The guy doesn’t have a clue !!!

THAT IS THE PARTY THAT WANTS TO REACH OUT TO EVANGELICALS.

Well, the big item in today's political news was a similar outreach to evangelicals by the leading candidate of another party I won't name.

Huh?

Rick Warren and Joel Osteen are as different as night and day.

I’m curious why you guys perceive Joel Osteen is a leftist.

I don’t particularly think of Joel Olsteen as a leftist, just a a shallow empty suit.

He gives me the creeps.
