Giuliani Reaffirms Pro-Choice Stance

HOUSTON -- Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Friday urged conservatives to look past his support for abortion rights, arguing that his divergence on the issue should not disqualify him from being the party's GOP nominee.

***snip***

Describing his belief that abortion was "morally wrong," Giuliani said he has opposed it all his life. But he said he believes the decision should ultimately be left to individuals and that their decisions should be respected.

"In a country like ours ... I believe you have to respect their viewpoint and give them a level of choice. I would grant women the right to make that choice," he said.

Admirable honesty about a despicable position...

Well, then can't the same be said of John McCain?

“I would grant women the right to make that choice,” he said.”

So, who does he think he is, to ‘grant’ or ‘bestow’ anything? Last time I checked, this ain’t no monarchy.

“Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Friday urged conservatives to look past his support for abortion rights”

Ok Rudy, how are ya on the 2nd amendment? Gay “marriage?” Illegal Aliens and Border security?

Goodbye Rudy.

McCain is pro-life.

Right, but he's bashed around here for being pro-CFR (which Bush signed) becaused he pushed for something unpopular with FR conservatives that he believed in.

That's the danger with this one: he considers presidential power to be imperial...just like a liberal democrat.

So in Rudy’s world, he ‘grants’ women the right to make a ‘choice’, but he doesn’t think the unborn child is entitled to any ‘rights’ at all, that he might be inclined to ‘grant’?

One of the seldom discussed effects of abortion (besides the obvious murder of an unborn baby) is that while in the womb, the developing infant’s nerves are extremely sensitive and vulnerable, and while any human being subjected to having their limbs literally ripped asunder and their body ripped apart would experience unbelievable agony, the unborn child’s greater sensitivity results in even greater agony and suffering. That is why there has been some proposed legislation (not sure if at federal or state level) to require actual anesthetic to be administered to the unborn child before the abortion.

Abortion is a hideous and barbaric curse upon our society that was foisted upon us by liberals, leftists, so-called feminists, and other godless slugs who seek the dehumanization of ALL life, starting with the babies.

I don’t think he drops out until he knows he can’t win, and I’m not yet convinced he won’t win.

Thus, I wouldn’t bet anything on such a thing.

“I respect Rudy more for finally being honest about his position on this issue. He lost the possibility of getting my vote on the day I realized he’s pro-abortion, but at least now he’s quit trying to con us.”

Same here.

“In a country like ours ... I believe you have to respect their viewpoint and give them a level of choice...”

I see. Not only do we have to accept the business of abortion but he “...believe(s) we have to respect...” the customers. Rudy, you’ve got some balls my friend.

Rudy needs to learn that winning a national Republican primary is not like winning a NY Republican primary. If you think murder (not the unborn) is morally wrong, do you say people should be allowed a choice? Of course not.

Rudy has done bizarre things in the past. Endorse Mario Cuomo over Pataki for one. For someone praised for his candor, his vagueness here will be his undoing. I still like him a lot and think he would make a great president. I don’t see how he wins a nomination.

Clearly, this has to be part of a strategy. Rudy knows full well that he has way too many pro-abortion statements in his history to finesse them, so he's taking the opposite tack and leading with them. He's banking on the idea that there are a lot of Republicans out there of the type he's met in the big cities, who are actually quite uncomfortable with an anti-abortion official stance in the platform, and elsewhere.

He really doesn't need them to be a plurality, just a majority in the early going. All he's got to do is finish in the top two of every primary or caucus state, and lean back on his war chest, and he figures he'll survive the long fight.

Anybody else see any alternative reasoning at work when they watch Rudy beat the pro-abortion drum?
