Re: Statement re Democratic National Committee
Dear Mr Robinson:
We are writing on behalf of our client, the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
A post by coffee260 on FreeRepublic.com today states that this morning, on the Quinn & Rose show on XM, co-host Quin stated that the DNC chairman, Gov. Howard Dean had called Gov Kathleen Sebelius (D-Kans) around 5:00am on morning after a tornado destroyed the town of Greensburg, Kansas and discussed with here what to say about the tornado and how to blame the war in Iraq and the Bush administration on a slow response to the aftermath.
The statement was made by Mr Quinn, repeated on FreeRepublic, is demonstrably, unequivocally and absolutely false. Gov Dean had no such conversation with Gov Sebelius, ever.
No effort was made by FreeRepublic to contact anyone at the DNC for comment or to check the accuracy of these statements before they were published. FreeRepublic not only repeated this statement, but further stressed that Quinns source was extremely reliable and in a position that would give him direct knowledge of these revelations.
The statements quoted above are false and defamatory, are libelous and slanderous and clearly threaten to interfere with the DNCs operations and ability to solicit support and raise funds by predjuding the organization in the eyes of the Democratic Party supporters and the public. For these reasons, we demand that FreeRepublic immediately cease and desist from Further dissemination of the above quoted statements or any statements similar in substance and immediately post a retraction of these statements in a location on its web pages at least as prominent as that on which the original story appeared.
Please let us know by noon, May 11, 2007, whether you intend to comply with these requests.
Thanks for your time and immediate attention to this important matter.
Sincerely yours,
(Signature)

I suppose #777 above is bogus too?
Read post 777 from Jim Robinson he explains it all.
Now that is mystery. hmmm is right.
LMAO at these clowns.
BWAHAHAAAAAAA!!!
ROFLOL! We'll be praying for you, Jim.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I am doubtful then as to the veracity of it now. Perhaps some snot nosed DUmmie who works as a janitor for said lawfirm is trying to pull a fast one on us.
Look up. At the post above yours.
Because its bogus, thats why!!!!!
He just told us he did. In the post before yours. Now get that tooth fixed.
That looks like a Washington insider’s nose! Inside what, I don’t think we need to say.
I haven’t compared the letter posted at the top of this thread word for word to the so-called confidential content of the emailed letter I received today from the DNC lawyer guy, but at a glance it looks close enough for government work.
Oh, I should have added...BAD TIMING!
Damn, HT, get off the computer and call your dentist already.
You are testy from PAIN. At the very least you need to take some ibuprofen and put an ice pack on your face.
How embarrassing. The DNC had some illiterate write the letter. The DNC needs to stick to what they do best, and that is to tell the people of America that they have free stuff coming to them if they vote Democratic -- no education required!
Damn! I wish I had seen your post before I posted the above!
Jim:
rface has stated that he copied it from a pdf file and made errors in transition, so it likely isn’t word-for-word. I also believe the email header will tell you whether it can be traced back to the attorney’s office, or some other location associated with the DNC. There is traceroute software out there that can do that beyond header info (which I’m pretty sure you’re already aware of).
It would be interesting to know exactly where that email originated. Obviously, if it’s from the attorney’s office, or the DNC itself, it’s not a hoax. If it’s from somewhere else, then all bets are off and someone, somewhere may have used their organizations illegally.
Theory; the DNC is using this to fundraise. In bringing a dead issue from the grave by attacking FR with a worthless C and D, the loony bin will be opening their wallets in praise of Dean’s attempt to stifle free speech... Simply a fund-raising awareness event at the expense of move-on and the governor. That is why they released this “confidential” letter to others.
I guess I meant to say not the authenticity but rather the if the DNC is serious or not. This is probably a cookie cutter letter they use that either works or doesnt work, so they probably in all seriousness don’t intend to persue this to far as really they could be pushing against a constitutional wall.
No, the poster transcribed it from the pdf and admitted all errors were his.
I appreaciated his attempt in spite of the few errors.
This sounds like a great Freeper challenge. Guess the right words! I can think of some four letter words, but I'm stumped so far on 4 words the DNC would understand.
You may be right, but if that was the intent, it hasn't worked that well at DU. When I looked at their thread a few hours ago it hadn't been updated for a couple hours and the enthusiasm was, well, tepid. Some loved it, some were unsure whether the threat was enforceable, and others were concerned about how such a demand could affect their rights. Not the kind of response one would want from a fired-up base.
