My apologies for the heavy, forced editing of this article....please click on the article's link to read the full text,

Although of course I'm all for safety as I'm sure everyone is,  when such an indignity is forced upon kids, particularly at an age when social stigmas are at their most raw, I fear that this sort of thing will engender resentment  and spur an active noncompliance not only of this law but of other traffic laws.  Requiring a fifteen year old to ride in a booster seat will not be an easy sell, I'll wager.

Dan Bates / The Herald

Lexi Shonko (left), 8, and sister Karly, 10, sit in new booster seats in the back of their parents' SUV with their dog, Chloe, on Thursday. The girls, who are too small for a seat belt to fit them properly, say they aren't thrilled they'll have to use booster seats again.

I’m wondering if this will require taxi cabs to provide booster seats for eligible children, and to measure or weigh children with a portable scale prior to allowing them in the cab?

If not, why not?

How about trains?

City buses?

The law of unintended consequences means that there will be more and more large suv’s sold. You can’t fit more than 2 kids in the back seat with these stupid boosters, and they are not allowed in the front seat, so what is left if you have more than 2 kids? And heaven forbid if you need to take a friend or 2 with you!!!!

Why is it, I wonder - that kids have to be bundled up like an astronaut to take a spin in the family car, but hey - put ‘em on a School Bus, and it’s just a bench, no seat belt and a 9 foot metal ceiling.

The People’s Republic of Washington. If you vote for socialists, don’t be surprised to have socialism imposed on every part of your life.

What a great opportunity for parents to teach their children the hazards of the Nanny State.

Only a matter of time before they take their cause to other heightened challenged people, regardless age. Because under the Equal Protection Clause everyone must be treated equally, no?

And I will reiterate was someone else here said....does this apply to schoolbuses as well?

Actually, neither Lexi or Karly will have to use a seat (although apparently their idiot parents have already gone out to buy two) because they are both over the age of 8.

It’s age 8 OR over 4’9”. They would only be forced to use a seat if the law was written age 8 AND over 4’9”. Sounds like the parents are opting to use the 4’9” criteria as opposed to the age criteria. Their choice!

Man, I was still 4’9” in 9th grade (I’m a guy, BTW, and fortunately had quite a growth spurt in HS and got up to 6’) and if you think I would be caught in a booster seat, you are nuts. What a bunch of Nanny State Nazis; trying to control every aspect of our lives. These were the little twerps who got beat up all through grade school and high scholl and this is how they are exacting their revenge on us.

I’ve seen these Public Service Announcements. I can just imagine how humiliating it would be for a small teenager to be forced into one of these seats! I don’t understand why they’re necessary. You can purchase clips that will keep over the shoulder seat belts in the proper position for shorter folks.

The thing that pissses me off the most is that those small, backless boosters can't be used unless the car's back seat has headrests. My Geo Metro certainly doesn't have headrests on the back seats. So we're stuck with the clunky big seats. Also, a lot of lower-income people are going to be rightfully indignant about having to buy new child seats to replace the ones that they got rid of. Including this low-income person.

Wonder what the safety Nazis think about my taking the 6 yr old to the shooting range (to shoot!)? Or on the motorbike? (I'd better shut up).

More gov. BS. I guess were just too stupid to care for ourselves.
Reminds me of the movie “Time Machine”.

Thousands of Washington children will be forced back into car and booster seats next month when a change to state law takes effect.

A prelude to parents seeking government assisted help to control their children's reactions to being tied down will be the next step.

Gee, I see a pattern forming in the madness.
