“fair enough. Have you read Charlie Wilsons War?
Great book on the agency and pretty much its only major success that has been halfway documented.”
No....its on the ‘to do list’....so little time, so many books. I’ve heard from others I should make time.
It really shows what can be done when we aren’t hamstrung by politics and twunts.

Yep, just as Phlameoutgate shows what happens when we are hamstrung by politics and twunts.

In the beginning the CIA was manned by people from many areas of business, acadamia, science etc. The feet on the ground were people from the area, not all were scrupulous, but did have the information needed. Then as the years passed, the cia became just another bunch of beaurocrats with their eye on the next promotion and not the safety of this country.
Right you are. My brother-in-law was among them. So was William F. Buckley Jr. (little surprises of life). Now the CIA seems to be a bunch of desk-jockey analysts. I was in army intelligence -- no fancy job, but at least I was out there every day snooping and gathering information.
