Iraqi Document: Planning of a Meeting Between Al Zawahiri and Saddam Regime in 2002 (Translation).
Burthanews.com ^ | May 9 2007 | jveritas

This “supposedly” Saddam Intelligence Service document was published today on an Iraqi news site called Buratha news http://www.burathanews.com/news_article_20033.html and it talks about a scheduled meeting between Saddam Intelligence Service and Al Qaeda number 2 Aymen Al Zawahiri on December 14 2002 and per the request of Saddam Presidential Secretary to discuss an operation called Revenge inside Saudi Arabia that they refer to as “the territories of the two holy shrines”. Also according to the document Aymen AL Zawahiri was supposedly working for Saddam Intelligence Service as a “source” and his number was “1000”.

Below is the translation of the document

The Republic of Iraq

The Presidency of the Republic

The Intelligence Service

Number: SH S/5083

Date: 1423 (Hijra), 12/12/2002

Secret

Mr. the respected M. M. SH. KH

To: Fifth, Sixth, Seventh Directorate

We would like to inform your Excellency that the date of 14/12/2002 was determined by the respected Secretary for the goal of the important and top secret meeting with our source number (1000) Aymen Al Zawahiri to agree on studying the prepared plan by the Respected Presidential Committee regarding the operation (Revenge) inside the territories of the “two holy shrines” with our source “Izahar Al Sheikli” and for the purpose of informing them about all the details of the plan put forth by the Secretariat of National Security council.

With regards

Hassan Abed AL Wahed Salem

R. AA’. Fifth Directorate

12/12/2002

End of translation

In my humble opinion I think that the style of the document does not match the many Saddam Intelligence service documents that I read so I suspect greatly that it is a fake document created recently. I hope that I am wrong because if this document is authentic it is yet another smoking gun that shows Saddam regime strong relation with terrorism and in this case his strong relation to Al Qaeda and their top terrorist leader Aymen Al Zawahiri.

Before I got to your closing paragraph, my thoughts were running along the same path - a different use of language than your previous translations.

Now, I am by no means an authority on any language - my grades in school will attest to that, but this was really strange sounding vs past docs.

Fake but accurate? Only Dan Rather knows. :)

Thanks for following up on the previous thread about this doc.

Look at what other document liberals treat as fake?

I understand what your saying now and I didn't carefully read your statement at the bottom while I was busy working at the hospital. It may not be wise to take the bait on this because it doesn't match the usual language style. The left could easily feed a mock document to the public in order to discredit any actual documents that are authentic.

Sorry Jveritas for not paying attention and my apologies.

Thanks for the ping. I think you are right. It reads different. Are there still tons of documents left to translate from the initial invasion?

Would the timeline also be suspect?

After examining the Harmony database document you have stated “The document does not indicate which year he did the visit but it is for sure after the year 1995 based on the context of the document. Other reporting from different sources said that there is an indication that Zawahiri visited Iraq in 1998”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1825605/posts

Does 2002 correlate with any other translated documents?

This is taken from a National review article

On the Iraq/Qaeda Connection, It’s Senator Levin, Not the (AWOL) Bush Administration, Who’s Spinning the Intelligence [Andy McCarthy]

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ZjlhZjQ5NDc0MGQ1NjZmY2ZkMGY0NWM2YjdkNzI5NWE=

Tom also sorts through just some of what is known from the haul of Iraqi intelligence documents recovered after the U.S. invasion. (And here, it is worth noting that the Bush administration has, for some reason, allowed the shut down by the Intelligence Community of a project to make these documents publicly available for analysts — the government itself plainly did not make reconstructing the workings of Saddam’s regime a priority, and the IC is clearly content that we remain ignorant.) Here’s some of what Tom notes the known intel (which is but a fraction of the total) tells us:

* Saddam’s Terror Training Camps & Long-Standing Relationship With Ayman al-Zawahiri.
* A 1992 IIS Document lists Osama bin Laden as an “asset.”
* A 1997 IIS document lists a number of meetings between Iraq, bin Laden and other al Qaeda associates.
* A 1998 IIS document reveals that a representative of bin Laden visited Baghdad in March 1998 to meet with Saddam’s regime.
* Numerous IIS documents demonstrate that Saddam had made plans for a terrorist-style insurgency and coordinated the influx of foreign terrorists into Iraq.

Forgetting all of these circumstances, among others, Tom also recalls, as Steve Hayes, myself, and others have for some time, that in 1998, “Ayman al-Zawahiri was in Baghdad ... and collected a check for $300,000 from the Iraqi regime.” I would add, for context, that this was in the same time frame as bin Laden and Zawahiri’s infamous fatwa calling for the murder of Americans — which, if you read it, argues that American actions against Iraq are a big part of the justification. It also came just a few months before al Qaeda bombed the U.S. embassies in east Africa, the Clinton administration bombed a Sudanese phramaceutical factory because intel indicated it was a joint Iraqi/Qaeda chemical weapons venture, and Clinton counter-terror honcho Richard Clarke fretted that “wily old Osama would boogie to Baghdad” — of all places — if the U.S. made things too hot for Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Sure, maybe all this is just a big coincidence. But, given that al Qaeda is a 24/7 terror operation whose main target is the U.S., I’ve always wondered for what earthly purpose Senator Levin and other connection naysayers figure Saddam Hussein gave Ayman Zawahiri 300K?

2002 seems very suspicious and that is one other reason I greatly suspect that the document is fake.

I do not know how they got it. Again I think that they forged this document.

What is the purpose of putting out disinformation like that?

The opposition is worried that your translations will be legitimized?

So....when are you going to do a documentary with Dick Morris concerning these pre-war documents?

No hit docu-drama like “Path to 911?”

That why we need to keep our work honest and flag any document that look forged as in the case of this one. In regards to a documentary about the Saddam regime documents, I think that this kind of project will never happen. The only way it can happen is if we find the Precursors materials to make WMD hidden somewhere in Iraq and the find of the materials was because of some of Saddam regime documents.

I was looking around just to find out if I could find any evidence of how Buratha obtained this document.

I did indeed but Buratha news did not indicate how it obtained the document.

But can you make a docu-drama about pre-war documents.
It’s a really interesting story.
Who found it.
Who translated it.....You.
How al Queda and IIS were working together.

Maybe Jon Voight can be narrator.
Get footage from CNN.

But the background music must be dramatic like in “Sons of Saddam”....it’s real eerie.

It’s Hollywood baby!

I and other freepers are thinking about You Tube production of the Iraqi documents and the findings related to Saddam regime strong relation to terrorism as well as Saddam WMD programs based on the Iraqi documents that I read and translated and other sources.

Great! What a creative endeavor.
I wish I could help out but I’m not skill in the video production.

If you need background music for your U-tube production consider this website.
Solo Timpani and Percussion Repertoire
and check out “favorite links” too.

http://www.johntafoya.com/repertoire.html

This instrument brings drama to a video presentation. It would make the video very different from other U-tube productions.

I’m a substitute teacher and I don’t make a whole lot...but I will be willing donate to the cause. :)
