Giuliani Plans to Publicly Embrace Abortion Rights [Rudy declares war on conservatism]
New York Times ^ | May 10, 2007 | By ADAM NAGOURNEY and MARC SANTORA

Posted on 05/09/2007 7:17:06 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

After months of giving ambiguous signals on abortion, Rudolph W. Giuliani is planning to offer a forthright affirmation of his support for abortion rights in public forums, television appearances and interviews in the coming days, despite potential consequences among some conservative voters already wary of his views, aides said yesterday.

At the same time, Mr. Giuliani’s campaign — seeking to accomplish the unusual task of persuading the Republican Party to nominate an abortion rights supporter as its presidential candidate — is eyeing a path to the nomination that would try to de-emphasize the early states in which abortion opponents wield a great deal of influence. Instead they would focus on the so-called mega-primary of Feb. 5, in which voters in states like California, New York and New Jersey are likely to be more receptive to Mr. Giuliani’s social views than voters in states like Iowa and South Carolina. They said that approach became more appealing after Florida, another state they said would be receptive to Mr. Giuliani, voted last week to move its primary forward to the end of January.

The shift in emphasis by Mr. Giuliani comes as his campaign has struggled to deal with the fallout from the first Republican presidential candidate debate in which he gave a halting and apparently contradictory responses to questions about his support for abortion rights. Mr. Giuliani’s aides were concerned both because it opened him up to a new round of criticism from abortion critics — who have never been happy with the prospect of a Republican presidential candidate who supports abortion rights — while threatening to undercut his image as a tough-talking iconoclast who does not equivocate on tough issues.

It’s not a big issue for me either, and I wouldn’t label myself as “pro-life”. However, there is a whole multitude of reasons not to support Rudy Giuliani for Presdient. If you believe in small government, don’t vote for Giuliani. If you value civil liberties, don’t vite for Giuliani. If you own a gun or respect the right others to, don’t vote for Giuliani. If you want a President with foreign policy knowledge and diplomatic skill, don’t vote for Giuliani. If you’re a conservative, even a pro-choice conservative (not an oxymoron in my book), don’t for Giuliani. If you believe in a free society, don’t vote for Giuliani.

BZZZZZZZZZTTT!!! Looks like you finally got the zot too. Well deserved, might I add. You idiots in the dismembered baby wing of the Republican Party might find things getting more uncomfortable around here and at party meetings as this thing heats up.

Since I don't see any coming out in support of such a policy, the default goes back to the WoT. Right now, for good or bad, Rudy has the WoT in the bank.

And that is the biggest joke yet. What has Rudy done in the counterterrorism department? Nothing positive that I can see. And the negatives? He used a 1997 terrorist shooting to call for more federal gun control laws. He put the NYC ECC in WT7 despite warnings from security professionals. And he pushed a corrupt crony for the most important anti-terror position in the country.

And his rabid support for NYC's sanctuary city policy is the wrong mindset for these times - witness the three illegal alien wannabee terrorists that just got picked up.

Rudy is the wrong man on ALL the issues. PERIOD.

This poses a distinct threat to the republic----it would decimate the system of checks and balances the Founders wrote into our system of government.

While I'm very anti-Rudy myself, that's one of the biggest crocks I've ever heard. That's what the liberals were saying when the GOP controlled the Presidency, both chambers of Congress, and (in their eyes) the Supreme Court. There's no checks and balances for political parties or political ideologies. I don't think you have any right to complain about Rudy's disregard for the Constitution when you understand it so poorly yourself.

Not smart to have both Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates from the same state!

Ivan’s Rooty Reject Room.

They have all failed the first test.

They are at their desks now, pouring over their Cliff Notes and making sure the ink is dry on their palms.

Subject? "Rootymentary Tactics to Undermine Conservatives".

They are going to fail the next round once again!

Fox news reported yesterday that those 3 had been ticketed for traffic violations as many as 15 times in the past but they were never questioned about their legal status because.........It Happened In Sanctuary Cities!!!

Without a store clerk reporting them the policies of morons like Rooty would have let the attack happen as planned.

So, in other words, a store clerk has done more to fight the WOT than Rudy.

Sure, Rooty is unqualified to work as a security chief at the local 7/11.

This is a smear against all Italians.

Either pony up with direct evidence that Rudy IS mob, or shut up -

The guy absolutely ate up the mob when he was a young lawyer

Atleast Giuliani could have really said that he was pro-choice but the States should be left to decide it.

It was pretty Giuliani is taking a militantly pro abortion position because thats what he believes in, ofcourse it is hard to wipe off all those Newyork values in Giuliani.

It is not the issue of abortion, it is pretty clear that candidates who are pro-choice nominate Lousy , horrible judges.

Sorry Rudy, you simply are not qualified for the office of the Presidency.

I pray Giuliani is not our nominee. The duplicity of the man is astounding.

Nah, he's relatively honest, for a politician.

You want duplicity, check out a phony flip-flopping Mitt Romney, who for years has been promising liberal groups they should support him so he can work to liberalize the Republican Party from the inside.
