I would like to know if anyone actually read this whole article? Could it have been written any worse?

I see that this policy group has it’s shorts caught up with a picture of Bill Clinton in a scope sight advocating killing him. I’m just wondering if they are as concerned about all of the lefty blogs that advocate killing Bush every day?

Let’s see, we now have to be worried about the Islamo Fascist sniping from 1000 yards out when they have never shown to have this skill, but love making bombs out of common materials.

I don’t think Carlos Hatchcock has been reincarnated as an Islamo Fascist so until they actually confiscate a .50 cal from one of these nuts or they show they are sniping our guys from 1000 yards out I’m not going to place this on a high priority list of concerns. Heck, these guys have trouble figuring out an AK - 47 and getting accurate shots off at less than 100 yards.

>>Where do they train and who trains them? 1000 yds is 6/10’s of a mile. You need an area you can maintain for your shooting range. Who will teach you to shoot at 1000+yds?<<

You need to visit the range 15 miles from my house and watch just how capable some of local guys and gals are at 1000 yds with their favorite toys.

Watching them on windy days is real fun!

Your local .50 club would be an excellent group to join if you are interested in learning how to use one.

Keep in mind that most of these folks are true Americans and if you were to mutter any popular anti American phrases you name and picture would be delivered to the local SWAT and FBI folks within the hour.

(Not saying these folks are predjudiced but there is no ME’s in the group.)

No doubts about that. Nobody is going to hit a target at 1000 yards without a lot of practice on his part and a lot of tuning on his weapon and sights.

Yep. You can teach yourself to use a handgun effectively out to twenty yards. Its virtually impossible to do so with this type of weapon with the ranges involved.

Allowing for the earths rotation comes to mind....(chuckle)

I’m not a long range shooter, I’m a handgunner from way back.

I will shoot with anything, but I’m not very good. I shoot with SASS - I like my targets big and close up...
(Actually I like ‘em challenging: small, moving, and /or at a distance. Even you miss, its fun trying... but I’me not supposed to say that.)

We live in a very rural area, one where if you don’t target shoot off your porch or deck, the locals think you are ‘odd’...(chuckle)

Have the perfect set up for target shooting of all types out to...300, maybe 400 yards on our property, with a very high cliff/ridgeback for backstopping rounds.

That sounds... wonderful. You must enjoy your home setup greatly!

I only get to shoot at ranges. Too many neighbors.

Where is that image of the T-72 tank dumped on its roof by a single 50 cal round?

Its nice, no denying it. We overlook a small valley with a large stream running through it. Plenty of fish, eagles have come back, redtailed hawks, red fox, wild turkey, beavers, way too many deer, and I just learned a dozen wolf hybrids were released - apparently intentionally - here in my county.

Everybody here hunts, bow/shotgun/blackpowder...except me and the wife....(chuckle) Shooting deer here...well, its hard NOT to do so, they are so overpopulated. Perhaps the hybrid wolves will reduce it in years to come.

Very few people (very, very few) are good with any gun at 1000 yds.

The Brits are deadly at that range and more with their 308s and train for it. I am not good much beyond 400 yards with my 45 and wouldn't even attempt 1000 yards with any less than my 30-06.

The Brits are deadly at that range and more with their 308s and train for it.

We have our own who train for this. But those who do train and become proficient are very few amongst the entire military.

308's and .06's are fairly comparable rounds. Though match grade can reach out to 1000 yds, I'd take an 338 lapua any day at this range. It has a flatter trajectory, less drift in any condition, and greater impact power.

Sub 1000 yd, the 308 is hard to beat, especially from 600 yds down.

Most police snipers (who are generally former military trained) use 308's and can repeatedly hit a nickel at 100 yds.

How many cops need to worry about targets much beyond 200 yds?
