The York Daily Record/Sunday News and WGAL 8 want to know what York County residents think, so we're holding a town meeting to find out.

Join hosts Mike Argento and Kim Lemon, along with other representatives from the Daily Record/Sunday News and WGAL, at 7 p.m. today at the White Rose Room of the York Expo Center.

Its your chance to express opinions and offer suggestions about community issues, WGAL's news programming and the Daily Record/Sunday News coverage.

The meeting will be free, informal and fun.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Extended News; US: Pennsylvania

This is one of those "town meeting" events I think that politicians invented to make themselves look good.

We, the unwashed masses get to approach the divine throne of the great and offer our questions. No doubt a lot of semi-timid people will be hustled by professionals with spin answers.

What if these folks got some real tough questions from serious, sincere people?

Let me admit I'm acquainted with Kim and Mike, but won't be able to attend the meeting tonight to ask this stuff. I guess I could always e-mail them myself but hey lets have our own town meeting here and now.

My suggestions-questions revolve about a few things at the top of my list.

I think we need to show the faces of crime victims more often. York County's murder victims for the year should all be pictured on one page sometime.

In fact it would be good to get any descriptions of the murder suspects or pictures of the people arrested for the murders.

The pictures would bring to us the realization that non-white people are getting murdered out of proportion to their numbers.

If we could get descriptions and pictures of the suspects in all these murders we would see the alleged perps are also racially disproportionate.

Then we could discuss this with those like the York County Community Against Racism Group that are so deeply concerned about "racial profiling" by police.

For the folks at WGAL-TV. Are you reporting on the burdens that Pennsylvania dog kennel owners face because of the new regulations and how absurd they are to decent kennel owners?

This is a very serious matter for WGAL-TV. Over the years highly emotional reporting about "puppy mills" has been featured on Channel 8. Its been done by Susan Shapiro, who has some strong personal opinions about how animals should be treated. I still remember the time she did a series with the camera hidden in her bag about the "puppy mills."

And yes, Channel 8, lets get around to balancing liberal Terry Madonna, Harrisburg insider with someone who is a conservative outsider for political analysis.

Please chip in with questions you would ask of these mainstream media people generic for anywhere or specific to the local area.
