I worry about that tipster. These guys know where they brought that tape, and they will get that information to someone on their side eventually, who will then go looking for vengeance. I pray that this man and his family remains safe and unbothered. I would like to buy him a virtual beer.

It may suprise a lot of people here to realize that there's a good chance the tipster doesn't drink for religious reasons. The tipster that foiled the Herald Square bombing in NYC a couple of years ago was named Osama.

“Store clerks are not the nation’s first line of defense.”

I think that they are (along with everyday folks like you and me). I wasn’t around, but it seems that WWII was very much brought down to the home front - with the sky watchers, black outs, rationing, and recycling.

I read somewhere once that the scrap metal drives where the wives would bring in an extra pot or pan, etc. were more for the “propaganda” effect rather than actually doing much good. And I think that it was “good” propaganda if true. Making people feel that they are part of the war effort, that they are contributing, and that they have a vested interest to win the war.
