The U.S. Senate's top Democrat on Tuesday accused big oil companies of shutting down refineries temporarily to raise gasoline prices and rake in"obscene profits." Once again demonstrating that they're economic illiterates. Unfortunately, so are too many Americans.

The few refineries we have in this country need to be shut down periodically for maintainance. If the Democrats want more refineries to be built, they should introduce legislation to waive bureaucratic layers to allow them to be built and stop the political grandstanding over Big Oil - which will not deliver cheaper fuel to American motorists.

They might, or might not, be “economic illiterates” -
the main thing is, they know that the majority of their constituencies ARE econignoramouses.

Once again demonstrating that they're economic illiterates. Unfortunately, so are too many Americans. Absolutely correct. Say what you want about the simple-minded demagoguery (that's all the 'Rats do), unlike most of their issues - especially the Global Warming nonsense - this one is a political winner for them.
