A spokesman for President Bush says a demand by Republicans for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to follow through on former White House insider Sandy Berger's promise to take a polygraph test regarding the classified documents he took from the National Archives will be studied.
The response from Tony Snow came on a question from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House.
"Congressman Tom Davis and 17 other Republican House members have called on Attorney General Gonzales, Department of Justice, to administer the polygraph test that Sandy Berger agreed to in paragraph 11 of his plea agreement. And my question, could you give us a substantial answer to these Republicans' request of the Bush administration?" Kinsolving asked.

They dont work on pathological liars. If the person truly believes the lie, the body does not change its response. Berger and the Clintoids are safe here.Polygraphs have not been proven to reliably operate at better than chance levels with normal persons under field conditions. And you don't have to somehow believe your own lies to pass a polygraph test when not telling the truth. Simple countermeasures that anyone can learn are readily available.

The important word here is “studied,” which is polispeak for “not done.”

"Whats the point? Polygraphs dont work." You're right- especially when they don't ask the questions everyone wants to know the answers to. Knowing the corrupt justice system, they will ask him things like- " do you have a dog?" "Is your car blue?"

What I cannot understand is this... Berger got away with it. If anyone else had slipped classified docs down his pants, they’d be in prison by now!
How is it that anyone affiliated with the Clinton Administration is above the law? Bill, Hillary, Berger....
And while I’m on a rant about sleaze-ball politicos... Why is Johnny Sutton still a prosecutor? Gonzalez should be fired for no other reason than he hasn’t canned Sutton....

So he takes a polygraph. His “promise” probably doesn’t require truthful answers. What would be his punishment if/when he lies?

...to be studied... Oh Wow! I can hardly wait!
Gimmee a friggin break, will ya?
If they ever had any intention of nailing Berger for his obvious and possibly treasonous theft of government documents they blew it a long time ago.
This is so stupid it's not even funny.

I recently asked a well known congressman this very question. He told me it was because there are not enough Bush people in place in the Justice Dept.

I agree, I had 6 of them where I used to work, and they were all inconclusive.

There are wags that say the machines may be defeated by a medication and/or lots of practice. Sociopaths like Bill and Hillary Clinton take great pride in their ability to mislead everybody all the time. The U.S. government even trains covert operatives how to fake out machines. As a highly experienced lawyer, Sandy Burglar has had a lot of practice lying under pressure. In foreign cultures, people are often rewarded greatly for lying with great skill: "The most skillful liar wins." Most people who grew up in Russia or Iran feel no form of guilt or nervousness when confronted by a machine. The threat of using machines to detect lying puts most Americans into a state of great unease; the site of the MACHINE! itself pushes some into total panic. There are very good reasons why lie detector evidence is not admissible in court.
Personally, I prefer the use of medications under the supervision of physicians. Sandy Burglar would be made to tell the truth. Then he would voluntarily sign a statement of what he had done to subvert the U.S. and admit the complicity of others. They he would forget his interview under medication but and remember signing his statement voluntarily.

"Whats the point? Polygraphs dont work."You're right. Let's just be good little Republicans and roll over again..... and again..... and again.... Prosecute a Democrat operative? Sorry, what were we thinking? Sorry, Master Clinton, we'll try not to let this happen again. How can we make this up to you? Throw a candidate overboard? Sure, who do you suggest?....

It was part of his plea bargain. The Gov has to do it or renig on representing the people vs. Berger. It should be a slam dunk.

There comes a point where a President has to protect the office of the President. Not only for his administration, but for the presidents that follow him and even those that proceeded him. If we allow ourselves to pursue and convict previous administration’s officials for their actions, it will have a ripple affect that will cause the next administration (perhaps of the opposite party) to do the same whether or not it is warranted. For all that President Nixon did for our Nation during some very difficult times, the greatest thing he did was to resign and protect the office of the President by doing just that. President Ford in turn pardoned him from any prosecution and continued the protection of the office of President. If we are to pursue actions against Sandy Berger, and end up losing the next Presidential election, I do not look forward to the countless Senate hearings and proceedings against VP Chenny, Karl Rove or AG Gonzales for nothing more than doing their job.

It all depends on the questions asked. If they simply ask, “Did you intend to steal documents?”, then Burglar can beat it. They need to ask the hard questions about why he stuffed documents into his pants and socks, why he didn’t consider using a copier, why he left them under a trailer, who was going to retrieve them, etc. Make Burglar sweat and he will be very, very nervous.
