ix-nay on the ing-ray of ower-pay!
Gandalf, not an elf & not a ring bearer. Galadriel’s hubby, Celeborn had one & yes, Elrond had the third.
“... and a short golden cane.”
I can’t believe all you Hobbit Lovers missed that one...!!!
Gandalf wore Narya during the War of the Ring. When Gandalf arrived at the Grey Havens around the year 1000 of the Third Age, Cirdan gave it to Gandalf, saying:
"Take this ring, Master, for your labours will be heavy; but it will support you in the weariness that you have taken upon yourself. For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill."
- Appendix B of The Lord of the Rings: "The Tale of Years," p. 366
Gandalf had the “ring of the adamant”, [Narya?], with a red stone no later than Boojk 3. When, or where, he got, wasn’t revealed in the book. But he had it.
I stand corrected.
:-)
The three elven rings were given to Cirdan, Gil-gilad, and Galadriel. Gil-galad was killed in battle and he gave it to his bannerman Elrond. Cirdan gave his to Gandalf to aid him in his fight against Sauron.
Correction #3. How many do you think I’ll get before all is said & done? I’m starting a pool.
....thus explaining why he made such a great net-minder.
Thanks for the ping!
