A syrupy poison, diethylene glycol, is an indispensable part of the modern world, an industrial solvent and prime ingredient in antifreeze. It also is a killer. And the deaths, if not intentional, are often no accident.
The kidneys fail first. Then the central nervous system begins to misfire. Paralysis spreads, making breathing difficult, then often impossible without assistance. In the end, most victims die.
Many of them are children, poisoned at the hands of their unsuspecting parents.
Over the years, the poison has been loaded into all varieties of medicine cough syrup, fever medication, injectable drugs a result of counterfeiters who profit by substituting the sweet-tasting solvent for a safe, more expensive syrup, usually glycerin, commonly used in drugs, food, toothpaste, and other products.
Toxic syrup has figured in at least eight mass poisonings around the world in the past two decades. Researchers estimate that thousands have died. In many cases, the origin of the poison hasn't been determined.
But records and interviews show that in three of the last four cases it was made in China .

Again we find that one should not do business with Communist. But then they are the Gods of the left so who can say anything bad about a Communist? One would be accused of Hate Speech.
We must be running low on things to be scared about.
I won’t buy any pharmaceuticals that say “made in China” on the label.
Don't you know it's our fault? If we hadn't spoiled their communist utopia by injecting capitalist desires into their society, they wouldn't be trying to make a fast buck by selling fake medicine.
Poison foods for your list.
Thanks, I had ping’d this article earlier:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1829204/posts
Do you think people would mind if I ping it again?
I don’t think it matters, if the manufacturer buys an ingredient from China or elsewhere. I may be wrong and I hope so, but as in the pet food scare, it was a matter of one ingredient.
* Don’t eat the Chinese crayons
I don’t mind secondary pings.
Don’t forget French wine.
Now, there are two glycols on the market, one poison and one not as bad.
Diethyline Glycol, which is deadly poison,
and Propylene glycol, which is less toxic.
Is this newspaper trying to get a “stir” out of the public with this article?
(Brand name) Antifreeze is formulated with propylene glycol (PG). As compared to ethylene glycol, propylene glycol is less toxic and safer for children, pets, and wildlife in the environment. Propylene glycol is used at specified levels in the formulation of many consumer products including cosmetics, pet food, and certain over-the-counter medications.
A poster earlier this week stated “that what was made in china should stay in china.” How long is it going to take the pols to figure this out?
If you're as old as me, you may remember the cyclamates scare regarding soda pop in the '60s.
Between asbestos, second-hand smoke, etc. etc., there's a whole generation of us out here that should have keeled over years ago.
:)
Is there an actual list of the specific medications (brands) containing this ingredient?
Sure, why worry about mass death caused by poisoned cough syrup? So long as it happens “over there.”
And NO ONE along the way tested the barrels to see what actually was in them.
Well, now that the French have elected a leader with a reasonable view of the U.S. and Israel, I may need to reconsider my personal ban on French products.
