“Yeah, you really refuted that guy, didn’t you? LOL”

I didn’t really see the point in trying.

“We had been told, on leaving our native soil, that we were going to defend the sacred rights conferred on us by so many of our citizens settled overseas, so many years of our presence, so many benefits brought by us to populations in need of our assistance and our civilization.

“We were able to verify that all this was true, and because it was true, we did not hesitate to shed our quota of blood, to sacrifice our youth and our hopes. We regretted nothing, but whereas we over here are inspired by this frame of mind, I am told that in Rome factions and conspiracies are rife, that treachery flourishes, and that many people in their uncertainty and confusion lend a ready ear to the dire temptations of relinquishment and even to vilify our actions.

“I cannot believe that all this is true, and yet recent wars have shown how pernicious such a state of mind could be and to where it could lead.

“Make haste to reassure us, I beg you, and tell us that our fellow citizens understand us, support us, and protect us as we ourselves are protecting the glory of the Empire.

“If it should be otherwise, if we should have to leave our bleached bones on these desert sands in vain, then beware the fury of the Legions.”

Centurion Marcus Flavinius, Second Cohort, Augusta Legion to his cousin Tertullus in Rome. No date given.

“Liberal just want them to come home so they can spit on them for volunteering.”

I don’t know that todays liberal has the guts of the 60’s punks. I KNOW that the vets of today will not have any problem separating punk from teeth if necessary. I pray it’s never necessary.

“...for volunteering”

That’s another thing that just gets me. These men and women did vounteer after all. It’s not like someone forced them into uniform against their will and dragged them off to be shot.

It ticks me off when people start talking about those “kids” getting shot up in Iraq. To the best of my knowledge there are no “kids” in American uniform in Iraq.

Hey, thanks for the PING, lady T!

I have written the leaders ..... I think we should bombard them with this and our comments!! Unfortunately the House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, and Majority Whip James Clyburn do not allow anyone NOT in their state to email them! Perhaps someone here can find a way around it.... that is a display of cowardice, IMO...take the position, and dodge the heat!!

CONTACT THE CONGRESS/ Pelosi, Byrd, Reid, McConnel, Lott, Boehner, Blunt (Hoyer, Clyburn)

EAGLES UP!

“Not in a mom’s eyes :)”

I was always the handsomest boy in school. It’s true, my Mom said so!

Mothers are not (sadly for me) always the most objective in matters pertaining to their kids.

This is excellent and EVERY FReeper should give this Army Ranger a listen!
This appeal needs to be heard by any of your friends and family that may be listening to the daily crap in the media about the war. It is very important that people hear the reality from “boots on the ground” and not the political hacks in Washington that have a vendetta against the President.
Give the military the opportunity to “Finish the Job!”

Who do we trust to protect us? When 9-11 occurred it was not a single event but one event out of a history of many. Those on the left, who a recent poll by Rasmussen research found that 61% (Democrats) either believe that President Bush knew about the 9-11 attack and let it happen or are open to the idea, disregard that history. They forget the first World Trade Center attack, the bombing of the USS Cole, the Khobar Towers bombing, and the hundreds killed in US embassy bombings in Africa by Al Qaeda. How can they protect us when they didn't then? They want to return to the status quo, where terrorists are pursued by lawyers and left up to law enforcement to apprehend.

September 11th 2001, we found out the cost of ignoring the enemy. Now those who did the most to put us at risk by hobbling our intelligence forces and targeting the military to be redefined to fit their political and social goals are telling us the war in Iraq is lost. This is some of the same group of people that defunded the Vietnam War not only withdrawing troops but refusing to offer the aid needed for our South Vietnamese friends to defend themselves. Millions of those we pledged to protect died as the North took the actions of Democrats in Congress as a green light to invade and they did. Many of our soldiers lost their Vietnamese wives and children because not enough transport vehicles were available to evacuate them when Saigon fell. That is the nature of those who claim to care about the welfare of the world and the poorest and most unfortunate. They closed their eyes to our friends for the sake of political power and are responsible for a black mark on America that even today has not worn away.

It does not matter that all but two provinces out of the 18 in Iraq are relatively stable and under control with the North and South largely peaceful.  More than two thirds of the population of Iraq out of an estimated 27,499,638 million live in those provinces and go about their lives in relative normalcy. Things are far from perfect but there is no doubt that Al Qaeda is in Iraq now whether this was the case before or not is irrelevant to that fact. The choice we are faced with is whether we are going to leave with the Terrorists still there? These are not the North Vietnamese Communists who had one goal of taking over and uniting Vietnam under Communism these are terrorists that have a the US and the free world as a target. No number of baseless conspiracy theories will change that. Even if Iraq does not fall in civil war or is not taken over by Al Qaeda one thing that is certain is that they will gain a legitimacy that no terrorist organization has had in the past. They will be seen in the Middle East as defeating the United States of America and that defeat with embolden them and swell their ranks and influence as never before.

We can not afford to let that happen. We need to let our troops finish the job and rebuke those who parrot the propaganda of terrorists as they eagerly see the defeat of the US as the key to their political power and the Presidency. There is a difference between honest debate and traitorous propaganda designed to divide us and it is clear the Democrats in congress have stepped over that line. Ask yourself "Are you proud to be an American?" or do you eagerly await the defeat of America at the hands of terrorists?

I just sent this email to Harry Reid:

Senator Reid, Sir:

If you and Ms. Pelosi, and those of your ilk spent as much time, effort and money supporting our military and the work they are doing, as you do in trying to destroy the morale of the finest young men and women in the world, and the courageous people of this country, the war in Iraq would have been over with long ago.

Treason is still a punishable crime.

The majority of American's haven't a clue what war and conflict are nor how a cessation of hostilities is achieved. Nearly everything printed and broadcast in the media is not news on the war, it's political opinion and propaganda........drivel from the sinister Left.

Listening to Chris Dodd on FNS this morning, I was not shocked but appalled when he proposed redeploying troops to fight Al Q'aeda elsewhere. Zarqawi is sitting up in his grave.

Thanks for the link, Sandy.

We've seen this before, haven't we? Jane Fonda got the press but General Abrams in MACV was ignored. Today's celebs and pols get face time while a Ranger First Sergeant serving in country is denied.

He did well. Nothing in his brief speech was compromising, everything in it expressed pride and honor......and determination.
