Actually having just spent a week in Normandy visiting the battle fields, I caution my American friends to not confuse the people of France with the current Government of France

When I went back in 92, the cemetary I visited looked like the grass had been trimmed with nail scissors, it was so well-kept, and many small village cafes gave me a glass of wine on the house just for being an American - still grateful after all these years.

"Why are so many people here focused on this? It’s France. It doesn’t effect anyone here.

Respectfully, it does. Sarkozy has apologized to President Bush for France's previous obstinance in matters of US/French relations. A victory for Sarkozy (especially one of a wide margin) should mean stronger support for US foreign policy.

And, Sarkozy may well restore fond rememberance of Charles Martel given his tough stance on Islamist troublemakers internally. A signal sent loud and clear to those trying to establish Jihad to Europe.

It is interesting how where America goes, everyone else follows. Eventually.

Clinton Elected ‘92.
Chirac ‘95, Blair ‘97, Shroder ‘98.
All leftists.

Bush Elected ‘00
Merkel ‘05, Sarkozy ‘07, and presumably the Conservatives will win the next election in Britain.
All rightists.

A good quote from a French thinker :

“What the left wants is not to be right, but to have the freedom to be wrong.”

The correct title should be #The Riot is ON~...I was on my way to the Picasso Museum this morning and ran across two burned out cars, one a VW Beetle and the other a nice Audi. This is close to the section of Paris (Saint Denis) that had the riots last year, so I think the car burners were doing a little practice the night BEFORE the election. It is clear and cool in Paris today, so if there will be riots, the weather will not be a factor.
I took pictures of the cars and of an impromptu Royal rally at the Fountaine St Vincent last night and will post them on FR when I get time this week.
In the meantime, I think that within an hour or two, the results will be a foregone conclusion, even though no numbers can be released here until after 8pm local time.

Visiting the American cemetery above Omaha beach as well as the Airborne Museum at St Maire Eglise, I was struck by how many French school children and their parents were at these places. The Museum I can understand some but the cemetery?

They do not forget

Is this really a turn to the right, or is Royal a weak candidate or a little of both?

Clinton Elected ‘92. Chirac ‘95, Blair ‘97, Shroder ‘98.

Uhh, Chirac was the Conservative. Sarkozy is from the same party as Chirac.

Chirac run under the conservative party but was in reality a leftists.

update : number of voters reach an historic record at 5 pm with 75.11%. One of the largest numbers in the history of the Fifth Republic.

On the first round, 83,77% of registred voters went out, it was already awesome.

Still 2hours 30 to vote.

Yes, I was in Paris last October. Oddly (or not) I found the people more pro-American than the British. Perhaps like in America, we only get to here from the leftist French Media, not the real people of France.

Question. Do they report by area (like the U.S. media) of who is ahead by % or is there a black-out until the election is done and the results are announced

Drzz, Do you know the answer to HappyDogx2 question?

total black-out.

I had to open a blog on a swiss website to inform my reader.

It’s a stupid law from a French government which doesn’t understand the internet era.

It’s wrong to be stupid too yet that never seems to trouble the current leadership of the Democrat party.
