Actually having just spent a week in Normandy visiting the battle fields, I caution my American friends to not confuse the people of France with the current Government of France When I went back in 92, the cemetary I visited looked like the grass had been trimmed with nail scissors, it was so well-kept, and many small village cafes gave me a glass of wine on the house just for being an American - still grateful after all these years.
Visiting the American cemetery above Omaha beach as well as the Airborne Museum at St Maire Eglise, I was struck by how many French school children and their parents were at these places. The Museum I can understand some but the cemetery?
