When did it become a Presidential responsibility to visit every disaster that strikes this country? Isn’t that the governor’s job? I’d hope the money spent to fly Air Force One to KS would be better spent helping rebuild or am I missing something key here?

I also naively assumed Kansans were made of tougher stuff than to be whining about a visit from the president. I miscalculated?

It’s not a responsibility, but it would be nice. It heartens the people. Of course, Kansas is not New Orleans, and the folks there will survive without whining or asking for handouts.

Our Senator Brownback announced a bit ago at a press conference President Bush would be here Wednesday. That is a very nice gesture. I can’t imagine losing your schools, hospital, fire/police departments, etc., just about everythng that makes up a city. Thoughts and prayers to my neighbors to the west of me.

ok, the comment about the Pres visiting may have come out wrong, I was quite upset at the time I posted it, he is coming though on Wednesday.
Final NWS report on the tornado is that it was 1.7 miles wide, and an EF-5 (first ever on the new scale).

There were 2 older women found in the basement of a church last night, unharmed. And today they found the owner of the rexall drug store ( Richard Huckriede) (unconfirmed by media)alive also. http://www.ksn.com/news/local/7301591.html is a KSN piece on him.

Ok, from what I’ve heard some looting, but not by people from there. I would love to be a fly on the wall when they have to face their commanding officer. I am a Gulf War Vet myself. 3 1/2 years Kansas Army National Guard (Pratt, ks) and 4 years active duty in the Air Force.

I grew up in Greensburg, but now live in Wichita. My sister, her sister-in-law, and my father were supposed to go into Greensburg today to see what they could salvage.

I see that the rat governor is making a big deal about national guard equip being in iraq and not there to help with recovery. How much are the dems paying the media to blame everything on President Bush?

I saw her, too. I was simply disgusted with the woman.

Yes, what happened in Kansas is devastating and needs fixing ASAP. Kansans are tough, pioneer stock and will prevail. I haven’t felt as proud of our common man in American in a long time as I did watching the survivors on television. They weren’t whining and screaming, “This is our Katrina!” They had rueful smiles and able to joke about the situation. They were grateful to have their lives.

For the RAT gov to imply that Iraq is a waste of our resources when the future of this country depends on the outcome, is just beyond the pale. I hope Kansans remember this woman the next time they are at the polls and run her fanny out of office. She was an embarrassment to their pioneer spirit.

I understand. I had just seen your Gov on FOXNEWS spewing vitriol 2 minutes before I read the posts; thus I was upset as well, for a different reason. She shamed you guys.

Please know that your entire state is in my prayers. I have several friends in Kansas that are probably going to lose their property over the next few days due to flooding, one of which is just now finally recovered from the last flood. It is a sad situation for all that are suffering in your fair state this week.

I don’t really blame the war in Iraq for the lack of equipment. As I said earlier I was in the Ks National Guard before going active duty, and we always had problems getting enough equipment even then, so I didn’t even really see a dig against the Pres. at the time. I rarely agree with ANY politician. I’m not a Dem, I’m not a Rep, I’m not an Ind, I’m not a Lib, I’m just me. I don’t vote for any certain party, just on how I feel about the issues, above all I AM AN AMERICAN. I was stationed in Ark when billy boy became pres and heard all the people laughing (yay we got rid of him) then.

I might not like some of the choices Mr Bush has made, but I don’t have all the info, OR all the stress either, so I’m not going to second guess him. I respect his office though. Even with all the infighting our political system has, this is still the best place on Earth as far as I’m concerned. I vote, so I figure that at least gives me the right to say when I’m unhappy. If someone doesn’t even take the effort to vote, then they don’t have the right to complain as far as I’m concerned.

Bringing up mudslinging (I can see how you would see it as that) at that time does grate on my nerves a bit, BUT, as I said, the Guard has ALWAYS been short on equipment, that’s just normal economics. Putting an already overstressed system under more pressure is bound to cause cracks somewhere. The local Guard unit (Pratt, Kingman, Hq in Dodge city) is the one I was part of, and they have been in Iraq for some time now. There have been several casualities from that unit including one young man from Greensburg whom I did know. They are the ones who would have responded, but they’re not here. I’m not blaming anyone, because there is no way possible anyone could have seen something like this coming. I’m not saying “if you’d done this” or “if you hadn’t done that”. The old saying says “Hindsight is 20/20”, but we do what we can, with the info we have.

Do I support the war in Iraq? NO! Do I support our troops? You’d better bet! Are you ever going to see me protesting against the war? No. Our president made a decision, and although I may not agree with him, I’ll still do the best I can to support my country, reguardless of what political party the Gov, or Pres is from. My suggestion to someone who wants to bash any politician, if you don’t like what they’re saying/doing, don’t vote for them, and run yourself. You’ll find out very quickly how “easy” (loads of sarcasam intended) it is. As I said earlier, I’m not any particular party, but don’t for a minute think I’m easy. I have definate views and opinions and will voice them, but I’m not so closed minded that I won’t listen to an opposing view either. Keep your mind open, but not so open that your brains fall out.

ABC news program just stated as absolute fact that the recovery efforts have not happened because everything is in Iraq. No qualifiers, no quotes, just absolute fact.

For the Governor of the State of Kansas to try to make political points with a disaster is the lowest of low.

We see it EVERY TIME from the left.

EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Where is Hollywood?? Get out there and help these people. I’m sending money. How much are YOU sending, Sean Penn? Or, will you skip this one because it’s a red state? Greensburg, Kansas is what AMERICA exemplifies. I am sick and tired of the left trying to score political points on disasters.

Governor Sebelius, shame on you. Shame, shame on you.

I wish you could see, with your own eyes, the ancient
vehicles going in and out of Greensburg. It looks
like an old news reel of the Korean War. It isn’t
whining to say that a big part of the Kansas Guard
and its equipment is not available. However, I
would be the first to admit that old, slow vehicles
are better than none.

If Gov. Kathleen Sebilius is able to supply the numbers, this might calm us all. If not, it will inflame us all.

If she is able to quantify what equipment is in Iraq, things will be much clearer. Perhaps she can tell us how many Humvees are with the Guard overseas and that will explain why there are none in Greensburg.

If she can’t come up with the numbers, that will tell us a lot. I don’t have a television right now; my information may not be as timely as that of other readers. Has the Gov. been detailed in her statements?

I would hope all the better equipment is in Iraq for our men and women. Unless you guys in Kansas are shooting at our troops, I think the newer, better equipment is allocated correctly.

Just on FOXNEWS. 88% of the National Guard is available. That all the carping about the Guard by your illustrious GOV was a lie.

there are NONE?? in Greensburg.

Even the drive bys, the anti American networks are having trouble with this major gaffe by the democrats.

How dare you politicize a disaster.

And, WHERE is Hollywood? Any of them show up yet to lend support and money? Edwards works for a hedge fund, maybe he can donate a couple of billion.

Ah, that’s right. Kansas. Red State. The democrats don’t care.

Don’t worry. We conservativs will donate and get those people back on their feet. We just don’t need your help, liberals.

Laurie, it should be a no brainer to recognize this: the National Guard in Iraq and the National Guard in the Pratt, Kansas - Dodge City, Kansas region could and should be BOTH well supplied. This isn’t making a disaster political; this cruel and hard reality crashing down around us.

Why does the National Guard have a hard time getting equipment? Do you have a theory?

This may suprise you: I’d be willing to listen to amd discuss your theory.
