Communist symbol returns to Russian Army's flag

Russia's Parliament has voted to restore the communist-era hammer and sickle to the official flag of the Russian Army.

It is expect President Vladimir Putin will ratify the move in time for next week's commemorations marking the end of World War II in Europe.

If so, Russians will again have the Soviet version of the victory banner for next week's Victory in Europe parade in Moscow.

For many Russians, especially the elderly, its symbolism is immense.

The red banner, together with the hammer, sickle and a white star, was the one raised on the Reichstag roof on May 1, 1945.

Millions of people all over the world know that photograph, but in Russia its significance is much deeper, with the Soviet victory over fascism in World War II remaining something seen in almost religious terms.

Well, Communism is a religion, just of the Satanic variety.

Only fools are surprised.

Same with China, those that believe China has now become a legitimate friend, and are approving of capitalist ideals, are foolish.

All this means is that the current flags are getting worn out, and some genius said ‘hey wait Comrades! we have a bunch of old Soviet-style flags with the hammer & sickle just gathering dust in a warehouse, let’s use ‘em!’, they pass a quick law restoring the symbol, and everybody’s happy. ;)

True - Putin’s gig was obvious quite a while back. Too much KGB flows in his veins. Too bad — for Russians.

God this is depressing.

A new Cold War against these wicked bastards. This time, facism instead of Communism.

And Putin wonders why we’re trying to help the free nations over there.

It truly is. This would bankrupt us (Not that we already aren’t) if we had to fight another cold war. So much for that peace dividend, we spent it well.

Federation Council endorses Victory Banner bill

MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax) - The Federation Council has approved a bill on the Victory Banner as revised by the conciliation commission.

Senators discussed the bill for the first time in mid-April. The majority of senators then opposed the bill passed by the State Duma, which provided that a copy of the flag raised atop the Reichstag in Berlin on May 1, 1945 have a five-pointed white star on a red field without the hammer and sickle.

The senators voted it down, saying that the hammer and sickle must remain on the Victory Banner.

The bill was sent back to the Duma, which in its turn overcame the Federation Council’s veto. However, the president subsequently vetoed it. The conciliation commission, consisting of members of the both chambers of the Russian parliament, then revised the bill.

FC approves law on Victory Banner

04.05.2007, 10.45

MOSCOW, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - The Federation Council approved the law on the Victory Banner on Friday. It establishes the status and the procedure for the official use and for the keeping of the Victory Banner and its copies.

The present version of the law was adopted by the State Duma on April 25. It was drawn up by the conciliatory commission. The first versions of the law, which introduced the notion of the “symbol of the Victory Banner,” was rejected first by the Federation Council and then by the President, because the symbol of the Victory Banner differed from the banner, which had been hoisted by Soviet Army soldiers over the Reichstag.

According to FC Speaker, the law has been adopted in the version, “which we all need.” “The new version of the law was adopted under the impact of public opinion,” said Lyudmila Narusova, head of the FC commission for information policy.

Bring the good old bugle, boys, we’ll sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it, 50,000 strong
While we were marching through Georgia.

Chorus
Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea
While we were marching through Georgia.

How the darkies shouted when they heard the joyful sound
How the turkeys gobbled which our commisary found
How the sweet potatoes even started from the ground
While we were marching through Georgia.

Yes and there were Union men who wept with joyful tears,
When they saw the honored flag they had not seen for years;
Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers,
While we were marching through Georgia.

“Sherman’s dashing Yankee boys will never make the coast!”
So the saucy rebels said, and ‘twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Georgia.

So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
Sixty miles of latitude, three hundred to the main;
Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Georgia.

Henry Clay Work, c. 1865
