President Bush Tells Pelosi: "I will veto any" pro-abortion legislation (pro-life alert)

WASHINGTON, May 4, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - "I believe it is the most basic duty of Government to guard the innocent. With that in mind, I will veto any legislation that weakens current Federal policies and laws on abortion, or that encourages the destruction of human life at any stage." So said President Bush yesterday in identical letters sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nv.).

In his letters, the President wrote, "I am concerned that this year the Congress may consider legislation that could substantially change Federal policies and laws on abortion, and allow taxpayer dollars to be used for the destruction of human life. I am writing to make sure that there is no misunderstanding of my views on these important issues." (See a copy of the President's letter to Nancy Pelosi here: http://lifesite.net/ldn/2007_docs/BushToPelosionProLifeVetoe...)

With the veto promise, pro-life Congressman are assured that no anti-life legislation will pass while the President is in office. 155 members of the House of Representatives and 34 members of the U.S. Senate, more than enough to sustain a Presidential veto, have already sent the President letters (dated March 30 and February 1, respectively), urging the President to veto bills that weaken existing pro-life policies, and indicating that they will vote to sustain such vetoes.

Pro-life groups are praising the President's move. Douglas Johnson, legislative director for National Right to Life, commented, "We appreciate that the President is drawing a bright line -- he will veto any appropriations bill, or any other bill, that would weaken the existing laws against federal funding of abortion or weaken other pro-life policies."

“You’d think her phone would be ringing with a call from her Bishop asking her what gives. Pelosi seems to be a convenient Catholic, unless she has assumed the she’s the final word on Catholic dogma - move over Pope. Heck, she has assumed the roll of Commander-In-Chief, President and Sec. of State.....in her mind.”

Nancy Pelosi is a San Francisco liberal. The name says it all.

Keep this up Mr. President and your poll numbers will keep going up. God Bless you.

Whether we may agree or disagree with the President on any issue, there is no question that he has made his decisions without one moment's consideration as to whether it would help his poll numbers.

This message constitutes a nice full cup of WYFA to Shrieker Pelosi and Dirty Harry.

Drink up folks, there's more where that came from.

"Pro-abortion advocacy groups have been pressuring the new Democratic congressional leadership to attack these pro-life riders."

I'm sure they have. I really wish the GOP had done more for right to life while having the majority, such as going for a Life At Conception Act.

Anyway, President Bush has done a great job on right to life issues, and I really do not wish for another President if he/she is going to be in favor of abortion. I love that he's waving vetos at the Dems like their war timeline, hate crimes, and abortion. God Bless you President Bush! We really could not have asked for a more pro-life President!

It’s wonderful to think that we have a President like this right now in a world like the one we’re living in. President George W. Bush’s legacy will also be felt long after he leaves office, too. Don’t forget about Alito and Roberts!

Indeed it will! I believe we will finally get the pro-life majority on the court if we can elect a pro-life President in 2008.

Yes, well it was HIS brother that signed the law that allows the killing of “pvs” patients. They had no intention of “saving” her. How could they, when Jeb was complicit in her death??? You bet I’m bitter - I’ll NEVER get over the fact that the State PUT TO DEATH an innocent, disabled, NOT DYING person. And the way it was done. Nope, I’ll never get over it, and I’ll never let it go!

"I was going to say something along those lines also....I believe W went the distance for Terri. What an evil episode that was - hope all those who championed her death rot!"

That includes Jeb Bush! He signed into law that "PVS" patients could be killed in this manner. Perfectly alright! Nuttin' wrong with it. He was as complicit in her death as the judge who gave the order. Pure evil! So, I'm as down on George Bush as I am on those others. HE could have stopped that atrocity. What would have happened if HE went down to see her for himself??? Would they have arrested him, too? Bah! Both brothers are responsible for her death, and for all the others that were killed this way. It is state-sanctioned murder!

He may have screwed some things up, but he also keeps getting some things right. And he needs credit when credit is due. Bravo, Mr. President.

"How could President Bush have prevented Terri’s death and still act within his constitutional powers? He returned early to sign what Congress passed but as I recall it was that Horrible Judge, the revolting Lawyer and the big hole in the Florida State Law." My belief is that all he had to do was go down there to see Terri himself. What were they going to do, arrest him? Also, there is no big hole in the FL state law. THAT is the law - that pvs patients can be starved and dehydrated to death, even if they are nowhere near dying. And, guess who signed that into law- FL Statute 765? None other then JEB BUSH! Unbelievable, huh? State sanctioned murder! In these, our United States.

.

My point exactly. GW did what he could do on a Federal level, that is his only venue of relief. Your “belief” doesn’t coincide with what The Pres. was constitutionally able to do. I understand your frustration, but Jeb Bush was Constitutionally bound by his own State Law.
You want to be angry, be angry at the idiots who write these laws without anticipating the consequences, in this case the Florida Legislature. There are always evil little Weasels like that Feltzer turd who was Michael’s Lawyer that find these loopholes

At times like this I am extremely pleased with President Bush’s courage, fortitude, and moral leadership, and pray for success in his efforts

I think you said it best.....At times like this...

My question is where has this been for the last 6+ years?

Glad to see it, no doubt but just makes me wonder if someone has finally figured out that you can't be nice to the idiots, you can't reason with the idiots, etc.

just frustrated.....opportunities lost, etc.
