Iranian Walks Out Of Dinner With Condi
CBS NEWS (Online( ^ | 5/4/07

(CBS/AP) Iran's foreign minister walked out of a dinner of diplomats where he was seated directly across from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on the pretext that the female violinist entertaining the gathering was dressed too revealingly.

"I don't know which woman he was afraid of, the woman in the red dress or the secretary of state," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday, regarding the actions of Iran's Manouchehr Mottaki.

Rice herself was questioned by reporters about the lack of a direct conversation with Mottaki, even though it appeared she was "chasing" him.

"Uh, well, you could ask him why he didn't make an effort," she replied. Then she laughed. "Look, I'm not given to chasing anyone."

So the face to face between Rice and Mottaki never happened, reports CBS News correspondent Charlie D'Agata. Instead, U.S. and Iranian delegations met at a lower, "expert" level, which while significant, is not a first.

"Our officials did, as they did in Baghdad, have an opportunity to exchange views about the substance of this meeting," Rice said.

The dinner episode Thursday night amid a major regional conference on Iraq perfectly revealed how hard it was to bring together the top diplomats of the two rival nations.

Going into the summit, the Iraqi government had hoped for a breakthrough meeting between Rice and Mottaki. Instead, their only direct contact was a wary exchange of pleasantries over lunch Thursday, punctuated by a wry, somewhat mysterious comment by Mottaki.

Mottaki walked out of the diplomats' dinner on the pretext that the female violinist entertaining the gathering was dressed too revealingly.

"the female violinist entertaining the gathering was dressed too revealingly."

I think Iran's Manouchehr Mottaki was seeing the writing on the wall when he heard the violin music. Any country that has as a diplomat such a rude yahoo as this shows their colors as a backward nation not ready to sit with civilized people.

Women without burkas must really freak them out.

Women without them in public & being uppity about it would be the problem. Burkas aren't worn in their homes when only family is around.

> Women without burkas must really freak them out.

It’s a sad commentary on Militant muslim society that they prefer their women to look like Ninjas and not look like Condoleeza Rice!

Crikey! No red-blooded normally-hormonally-wired man would ever walk out on dinner with Dr Rice... it just isn’t a biological possibility! Not an option!

It would be funny if Iran wasn’t threatening to annihilate us.

If we expect Moslems to allow our women the freedom we deem as right, then we owe it to them to respect their culture. Neither culture likes the other.

Sending women to negotiate with Moslem men who can be executed for even talking to a women is going to get us annihilated.

Feminism in place of common sense and respect for others is making our kids fat, men unhappy and threatening the peace of the world.

We insist that it’s worth it because the feminist culture trumps all other cultures.

It’s going to kill many more people.

You know, I’m sorry, but if these “men” have so little self control that just seeing flesh, any flesh (elbow, ankle, arm) sends them into a frenzy they don’t need to cover the women head to toe, they need to wear dark glasses or heck just go on and gouge out their eyes. I want to laugh, it’s just to funny, but I just wind up shaking my head cause it’s just to stupid.”

THIS is the quality of person that Pelosi declares that we all should work hard to “get along with”. Madeline Not-So-Bright and Clinton gave away our military secrets on the basis that we could all get along if we all had the same weapons.
What a total group of morons.

Ever get the feeling that these Islamists are like those guys in high school who were so afraid of women that they’d yelp and run when the girl at the next locker over dropped her pen on the floor?

Then she laughed. "Look, I'm not given to chasing anyone."

Contrast with the execrable Mad Maddy Albright, who was known for waddling at high speed after anyone who turned their back on her...... (she would say that just shows she's willing to do "anything for world peace")

Note to all women;

She has never worn anything even close to revealing, but I thoroughly enjoy the eyecandy named Condi.

One sexy woman.

The dinner episode Thursday night amid a major regional conference on Iraq perfectly revealed how hard it was to bring together the top diplomats of the two rival nations.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, it could be regarded as a wake up call. A sensible approach is not to negotiate with or try to appease the rogue states.

The liberals have been longing for some sort of an appeasement approach with the 'axis'. The results are telling: public humiliation of the US officials. And this will never change.

The Arabic/ME culture is historically a culture of invaders/raiders; the willingness to negotiate is regarded as sign of weakness: why negotiate if you can take what you want by force?

Until we understand this (our ancestors in Medieval Europe did) we will never be able to prevail in any sort of a conflict in the East. You also have to walk the walk, talking is not enough and will be laughed at. The recent developments may actually help many Americans (always excluding the liberals, of course) to understand that there’s just no way you can negotiate with those guys.

This is exactly how one or two criminals manage to control large crowds: they have a sense of purpose; they know what they want and are prepared to take risks to get it. If you try to reason with them or submit, you will ultimately lose the minute you stop being useful to them. You could draw a parallel between the above and cattle: exactly the same thing, small number of humans controlling a herd. If we don’t want to be thought of and, consequently, treated as a herd, we’d better quickly acquire a sense of purpose and act as one force rather then lots of discordant and contradictory voices.
