Drudge GOP Debate Poll -- 50,000 votes; Clear Winners are Romney, Giuliani, and RON PAUL

DRUDGE REPORT
The Reagan Derby

Well, with 47,617 individual Votes recorded as of 12:55AM EST on 5/4/07, The Drudge Report has provided perhaps the most sweeping and comprehensive initial survey of viewer reaction to the first GOP Primary Debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

The Results thus far:

With an optimistic, confident demeaner and a polished presentation, Mitt Romney decidedly overshadowed the erstwhile Front-Runner, Rudy Giuliani. Rudy's primary strength thus far has been his vast name recognition and the sheer momentum of his supposed "inevitability" -- and yet, in terms of viewer reaction, for him to be trailing (by double digits) a former Governor not widely known outside of Massachusetts until this election season demonstrates clear vulnerability on Giuliani's part.

However, the greatest source of comfort to Constitutionalist Conservatives has to be the tremendous upswell of support being registered by the former Leader of Ronald Reagan's Electoral Delegation from Texas, United States Congressman Ron Paul -- and that DESPITE receiving comparatively little "face time" from the debate organizers. With viewer reaction to the first GOP Primary Debate already placing Congressman Ron Paul solidly in third place, nine points ahead of his nearest rival and within five points of Giuliani himself, a tremendous opportunity exists for Ron Paul to establish widespread national Name Recognition and garner increasing support for his broadly-appreciated message of Individual Liberty and strictly-limited Government Power.

With the second GOP Primary Debate rapidly approaching, Conservatives can take heart in knowing that the Message of Reagan Republicanism still resonates when presented confidently and forthrightly --and that there's at least one GOP Candidate on the stage who has stood solidly for Reagan Republicanism for thirty years: RON PAUL.

Ron Paul’s plan
Foreign embassies at risk. Meanwhile al-Qaeda influence grows unchecked because we’ve withdrawn into our cocoon.

Many countries trade freedom for security to bow to Islamofacists. We shrug and turn away.

Life is full of trade offs.

You clearly have no clue about my stance on illegal immigration and amnesty. So, instead of asking, you make assumptions. By the way, your assumptions are way off. I am and have been adamantly opposed to any kind of amnesty and am a strong proponent of border enforcement. However, I am not a one-issue voter, either and am able to recognize other serious threats to our national security.

My issue was with you and the other Ron-Paul-bots' desire to surrender to the terrorists. I believe I have discerned your stance on that.

I find it insulting to our troops and lacking in insight and honor.

Do you realize what kind of message our surrendering to the terrorists would send to the world and particularly to al Qaeda and other terror groups? Has that struck you at all?

Ron Paul’s plan ~~ Foreign embassies at risk.

Your plan -- continue spending American Blood and Treasure to prop up an Islamic Theocracy in Iraq which legally defines Christianity as a Second-Class Religion and which includes a convicted US Embassy Bomber in their Ruling Coalition!

Madness.

No thanks, Neo-"conservative" Nation-Builders. You had your try.
And you have failed us all dismally.

Time for a REAL Reagan Republican to step up to the plate.

Time for Ron Paul.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone can believe our being in Iraq has any effect at all on whether or not we are attacked again on our soil. At best the effect is neutral. More than likely it increases our chances of being attacked, because our resources are being gobbled up by the black hole that is Iraq.

If I want *this* sort of commentary, I can either:

-Go to DU
-Read the Washington Post/ New York Times / San Francisco Chronicle, etc.
-Turn on CNN.

No, thanks.

Spending American Blood and Treasure to prop up an Islamic Theocracy in Iraq which legally defines Christianity as a Second-Class Religion and which includes a convicted US Embassy Bomber in their Ruling Coalition -- IS "surrendering to the terrorists".

According to the 2002 State of the Union Address, the United States MUST NOT give Military and Financial Support to any Nation which Knowingly and Willfully HARBORS TERRORISTS.

Well, the "democratically elected" Islamic Thug-ocracy of Iraq is guilty of EXACTLY that -- they have knowingly and willfully harbored self-confessed, and even convicted, Anti-American Terrorists (including a convicted US Embassy Bomber!) in their RULING COALITION!

According to the Principles laid down in the 2002 State of the Union Address, therefore, we must not provide any more Military and Financial support whatsoever to the Terrorist Islamic Regime of Iraq.

Ergo, Ron Paul is Right.

KUDOS to your post #151! {applause, applause...}

It creeps me out as well that people appear to actually worship a particular candidate.

You're absolutely right. They're politicians, for crying out loud. Humans. Just as fallible as the rest of us.

I haven't seen one yet who deserves to be placed on an altar or even a pedestal.

I'm sorry, but you have about as much a clue about Iraq as Harry Reid does. It is pointless for me to try to explain the reality. I do not like to engage in exercises in futility.

Go back to bowing down to Ron Paul at the altar. All hail the Great Ron Paul! Follow the Yellow Brick Road!(YEEEEEESH!)

This war is good for buisness isn’t it Allegra?

Especially those in the buisness of Defense contractor in Procurement and Logistics in Iraq. Vote your pocketbook.

Tell me what victory in Iraq will look like???

Sunni and Shia Muslims holding hands with Turkish Kurds and singing kumbaya? A government headed by mainly Shia Muslims with known links to Iran and using a Constitution based on Shria Law? What are we defending that is American in Iraq?

The oil?

That’s what I’m saying. Hard to support a man who gets it wrong on the most important issue of our time.

The phony debate catered to the international one worlders such as McCain, Guiliani, Romney and the other libreals. Meaning the candidate who actually believes in the Constitution and wishes for America to remain a sovereign nation, Paul, had the least questions asked of him along with that ridiculous Thompson.

Giuliani 9
McCain 11
Thompson 5
Hunter 6
Romney 10
Brownback 7
Huchabee 6
Gilmore 6
Tancredo 6
Paul 5

This is without the 8 ridiculous questions that went down the line of candidates.

No offense but Ron Paul is a hiccup in a hurricane and has about as much chance of being POTUS as I do.

And I took this statement by Allegra to be insulting to supporters of Ron Paul. I did not introduce the incivility.

What a nasty and slanderous assumption.

First of all, I never worked in defense until after the war started. The majority of my experience has been gained in the private sector. For example, I managed traffic and logistics for building chemical plants around the world for a very large chemical company. (I love to tweak you libs with stuff like that.)

Secondly, I don't need the money at this point. I have had several very lucrative offers to go back to the private sector in the U.S.

It is not easy to live here. It can be frustrating and backbreaking work to bring this nation into the 21st century.

I do it because I love it, it is rewarding and because I firmly support our troops and this mission.

I cannot explain what we are defending if you don't have any idea. Just keep watching CNN and eat what they feed you and we'll take care of things on this end. 'K?
