Drudge GOP Debate Poll -- 50,000 votes; Clear Winners are Romney, Giuliani, and RON PAUL

DRUDGE REPORT
The Reagan Derby

Well, with 47,617 individual Votes recorded as of 12:55AM EST on 5/4/07, The Drudge Report has provided perhaps the most sweeping and comprehensive initial survey of viewer reaction to the first GOP Primary Debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

The Results thus far:

With an optimistic, confident demeaner and a polished presentation, Mitt Romney decidedly overshadowed the erstwhile Front-Runner, Rudy Giuliani. Rudy's primary strength thus far has been his vast name recognition and the sheer momentum of his supposed "inevitability" -- and yet, in terms of viewer reaction, for him to be trailing (by double digits) a former Governor not widely known outside of Massachusetts until this election season demonstrates clear vulnerability on Giuliani's part.

However, the greatest source of comfort to Constitutionalist Conservatives has to be the tremendous upswell of support being registered by the former Leader of Ronald Reagan's Electoral Delegation from Texas, United States Congressman Ron Paul -- and that DESPITE receiving comparatively little "face time" from the debate organizers. With viewer reaction to the first GOP Primary Debate already placing Congressman Ron Paul solidly in third place, nine points ahead of his nearest rival and within five points of Giuliani himself, a tremendous opportunity exists for Ron Paul to establish widespread national Name Recognition and garner increasing support for his broadly-appreciated message of Individual Liberty and strictly-limited Government Power.

With the second GOP Primary Debate rapidly approaching, Conservatives can take heart in knowing that the Message of Reagan Republicanism still resonates when presented confidently and forthrightly --and that there's at least one GOP Candidate on the stage who has stood solidly for Reagan Republicanism for thirty years: RON PAUL.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone can believe our being in Iraq has any effect at all on whether or not we are attacked again on our soil. At best the effect is neutral. More than likely it increases our chances of being attacked, because our resources are being gobbled up by the black hole that is Iraq.

"Let me speak to the minority: Unite! The majority screwed up this country and make our lives miserable. My dear minority, you are dead wrong if you do believe that the election could change anything. This election is their game. It is the stupidest thing on Earth. If everything shall be decided by the majority, they shall always win!" Link; actual speech begins at :30

So you are not aware that there are already Jihadists in the U.S.

Ron Paul favors robust enforcement of the Illegal Immigration laws. That includes deportation of Illegals already here.

I'm in favor of that. When Illegal Immigration laws aren't enforced... we get 9/11.

But go back to drinking your Bush "Amnesty-Brand" Kool-Aid, I'm sure that the US Borders don't really matter.

I have to say, as a first-time poster here the one thing that got me to finally sign up and join the discussion was watching Ron Paul. Miles and miles above the other 9. It makes me so angry that the MSM is so fixated on McCain and Giuliani, who are both insults to the Republican Party. As of now Paul definitely has my vote.

Very cool! Thanks for your Post!

Please Ping or FReepMail me if you'd like to be added to the Great Ron Paul Ping List.

But, be forewarned -- according to our detractors, we're too insignificant to matter. (We only have well over 100 supporters signed up on Free Republic alone, and are already running 3rd Place in the latest Free Republic Poll).

May I post that as a separate article, tomorrow?

(That is to say... may I plagiarize your work, and steal your thunder?)

And seriously, what the devil is with all these cults of personality cropping up around primary candidates...candidates for an election that is still over a year away? Some of these posts are just bloody creepy the way the hail so-and-so as the greatest American since George Washington.

It's creepy and annoying.

Look, all politicians are arrogant and corrupt to some extent, else they wouldn't be in the business. The job of the primary process is to winnow out the worst of them to get the ones who can do a decent job running the government according to our wishes (more or less) while they get their kicks though wielding power. That's the deal we make with them.

Ron Paul isn't some freakish cross between Moses, Superman and Ronald Reagan. I'm pulling for Duncan Hunter myself, but he doesn't fit that bill, either. They're politicians.

None of these guys deserve this level of praise and adoration. That's all I'm sayin'.

Sheesh! ;) (end rant)

Hunter is a good guy on Border Security issues. He's not Fiscally Conservative enough for me, but I respect him.

So why do you feel so compelled to bad-mouth my candidate, if you claim that you really don't care that much? I'm not bad-mouthing yours.

(I could, but I'm not)

I’m bad-mouthing them all, including mine. ^_^

There’s no need to set high expectations for them that they won’t keep. The last honest politician died before any of us were born, assuming he ever lived.

This is a poll of 50,000 viewer reactions to the GOP Debate. Many of these people may have only seen Ron Paul for the first time tonight. And they like what they see.

No, these are the Ron Paul fantasists who've been singing his praises on this website for 12-plus years. The same folks who think a Paul/Keyes ticket will solve all our problems, when in actuality it's a non-starter.

Maybe you can get one of them extra kids that Liz has stashed away over in Buck house. They don’t have too much going on right now, except for the one young that is headed for Iraq.

"...you can support interventionist Nation-Building (as all Clintonistas did) ..."

I support interventionalist nation builiding when it is in the best interests of my country to do so.

We had VERY good reasons to go into Iraq and Afghanistan, and once there, it is our responsibility to do things as best we can.

If you tell me that there is no difference between the reasons our country went into Yugoslavia and the reasons we went into Afghanistan and Iraq, that lends a degree of invalidity to your opinions and the candidate you support.

At least the proponents of Fred Thompson who say he won the debate last night without even being there are simply being honest about being cheerleaders for their candidate with no pretense of trying to make something out of nothing.
