Two House Armed Services subcommittees today recommended more spending for equipment to protect special operations soldiers in the field, vehicles that can resist roadside bombs, and additional ships and submarines for the Navy.
The Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee by voice vote forwarded to the full Armed Services Committee its $23.3 billion section of the fiscal 2008 defense authorization measure (HR 1585), including a $210 million increase in funding for the U.S. Special Operations Command. The panels recommendations mirrored those of three other subcommittees in efforts to shift military spending toward bolstering a force devastated by four years of war.
The Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee also forwarded its $60 billion section of the bill to the full committee by voice vote. It includes $2.7 billion more than President Bush requested to build a second amphibious attack ship, a second supply ship, and a propulsion system for a nuclear attack submarine.
The bill is expected to go to the full committee May 9 after the last subcommittee markup: Readiness on May 8.
But Special Forces have to be able to think for themselves.
And they use guns in a brutal manner.
Oh the horror...

GO NAVY!
Haven’t heard that for a while because the plebes aren’t chopping this week due to finals ;-)
One should check just how much of the naval portion is being channeled to the contractors that make up Murtha’s largest sector of campaign contribution supporters.
