One thing was very clear in all the back and forth though -- only the Republicans were using the term "political theatre," and they were using to accuse the Democrats of employing it by sending Bush a bill they knew he would veto.
"By this political theater that we're fixing to embark on ... this legislation is dead before arrival," said Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS).
Funny, I don't recall Lott describing the "Incapacitated Person's Legal Protection Act" as political theatre. That was the 2005 bogus bill hastily drawn up by Republicans to cater to their pro-life base (and override a husband's power of attorney) by forcing feeding tubes back into poor Terry Schiavo.

Another telling moment in the debate: Most of them agreed that the Congress was right to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case as, as one said, Congress should always protect life. Yet, most of them while campaigning, blame the democrats in Congress for trying to end the war in Iraq, that has cost tens of thousands of lives. A bit of a disconnect to say the least. And, how can you be against abortion and for the war? Oh, I believe in God and evolution. My favorite commandmant? Thou shall not kill.
