Latin Rudy Not so hot in May [Giuliani]
National Review ^ | May 1, 2007 | By Jim Geraghty

It was by no means a bad appearance for Rudy Giuliani late Tuesday morning at the Latino Coalition. But one got the feeling that his applause lines were a little out of sync with his audience’s passions.

Latino Coalition Chairman Hector Barreto — President Bush’s appointed head of the Small Business Administration from 2001 until last year — gave an introduction so effusively enthusiastic that Giuliani ought to take him on the road with him for his stump speeches. Barreto noted that the group had invited every major candidate, “Republican, Democrat, Green, red or blue” and that only Giuliani had accepted; and he mentioned that the former New York City mayor had rearranged his schedule in order to appear. He was, Barreto said, supposed to be in California preparing for a debate at the Reagan library later this week. Describing Giuliani’s accomplishments as mayor, he summarized, “Rudy [pause] did [pause] miracles.”

So maybe it would be tough to live up to the hype, as Rudy was greeted with a standing ovation from the 250 or so Latino Coalition members in the ballroom of the Four Seasons in Washington.

“Dignity” is not a word commonly heard on the campaign trail, but speaking before a group that included a healthy amount of small business owners and entrepreneurs, Giuliani more or less portrayed it as the centerpiece of his campaign.

“Rudy was the Rudy we’ve all seen before, invoking Reagan at every opportunity and not only using “optimistic” frequently, but actually demonstrating optimism, as when he said the illegal immigration debate was an illustration of an unrecognized greatness of America:”

Good one!

I thought Rudy was over the top with his declaration that federal abortion funding was some kind of right......that was at least consistent with his 100 percent NARAL rating. But his claim that the feds could have deported thousands of arrested NYC drug dealers is a complete rewrite of history.........

Let's not ever forget Rooty stupidly asserted 2A was formulated for “hunters.” The Rudester sitting at the levers of government is an appalling thought.

In Emperor Rooty’s insular mind, rights and freedoms are what HE says they are. He doesn’t give a fig about our Constitution, or our Bill of Rights.

Rooty needs professional help for that dictator fixation of his.

The Illegal-Alien Crime Wave
By Heather MacDonald, City Journal, January 14, 2004 (FrontPageMag.com)

~~~snip~~~
Immigration politics have similarly harmed New York. Former mayor Rudolph Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the city’s sanctuary policy against a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS. Oh yeah? said Giuliani; just watch me. The INS, he claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to “terrorize people.” Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end. On September 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government. Six days later, several visa-overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history.
New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws until a gang of five Mexicans—four of them illegal—abducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens. The NYPD had already arrested three of the illegal aliens numerous times for such crimes as assault, attempted robbery, criminal trespass, illegal gun possession, and drug offenses. The department had never notified the INS.
