Latin Rudy Not so hot in May [Giuliani]
National Review ^ | May 1, 2007 | By Jim Geraghty

Posted on 05/02/2007 7:50:05 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

It was by no means a bad appearance for Rudy Giuliani late Tuesday morning at the Latino Coalition. But one got the feeling that his applause lines were a little out of sync with his audience’s passions.

Latino Coalition Chairman Hector Barreto — President Bush’s appointed head of the Small Business Administration from 2001 until last year — gave an introduction so effusively enthusiastic that Giuliani ought to take him on the road with him for his stump speeches. Barreto noted that the group had invited every major candidate, “Republican, Democrat, Green, red or blue” and that only Giuliani had accepted; and he mentioned that the former New York City mayor had rearranged his schedule in order to appear. He was, Barreto said, supposed to be in California preparing for a debate at the Reagan library later this week. Describing Giuliani’s accomplishments as mayor, he summarized, “Rudy [pause] did [pause] miracles.”

So maybe it would be tough to live up to the hype, as Rudy was greeted with a standing ovation from the 250 or so Latino Coalition members in the ballroom of the Four Seasons in Washington.

“Dignity” is not a word commonly heard on the campaign trail, but speaking before a group that included a healthy amount of small business owners and entrepreneurs, Giuliani more or less portrayed it as the centerpiece of his campaign.

Rooty’s going to have a tough time selling himself as Jim Gilchrist, isn’t he...

Damn, the recently departed might have to travel down to Arizona to build their own Rudy fence at this rate (one strand of barbed wire that might trip the occasional illegal that isn't paying attention). Wouldn't that be a kick in the head.

He described his exasperation with the immigration authorities as mayor: “I had the police go after drug dealers, and I told the immigration authorities, ‘I got a couple hundred drug dealers you can deport, why don’t you put ’em first?’

Rudy has just been caught in the biggest lie of his political career.

Just in time for your dad’s debate. Hope this helps.

Ping to Darth Kahuna:

http://www.city-journal.org/html/14_1_the_illegal_alien.html

Immigration politics have similarly harmed New York. Former mayor Rudolph Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the city’s sanctuary policy against a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS. Oh yeah? said Giuliani; just watch me. The INS, he claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to “terrorize people.” Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end. On September 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government. Six days later, several visa-overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history.

New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws until a gang of five Mexicans—four of them illegal—abducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens. The NYPD had already arrested three of the illegal aliens numerous times for such

>>>>OK, A51. Rudy has just been caught in the biggest lie of his political career. Do you have the guts to call him on it?

She's too busy making small talk with the liberal deadheads over at RudyCentral.

Looks like Rooty was having a liberal moment. The truth and his rhetoric are miles apart. Ding dong, ding dong.

Unfortunately, however, Giuliani did not address one issue that has the potential to seriously damage his efforts to win conservative support: his prior defense of “sanctuary” laws, which act as a shield for illegal immigrants. These laws, which are in effect in locations such as New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, Miami and Austin and Montgomery County, Md., bar police from reporting immigration violations to federal authorities.

Rudy just made up the fact that he called on federal authorities to deport NYC illegal alien drug dealers:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17455188/page/2/

As mayor, Giuliani enforced a policy which ordered municipal agencies to not report illegal immigrants to federal authorities for deportation.

But you'd rather get after dirtboy, eh?

Rooty talks welfare and immigration reform..

“Executive Order 124” protects undocumented immigrants in New York City from being reported to the I.N.S. While they are using City services that are critical for their health and safety, and for the health and safety of the entire city.

“And yet Section 434 of the new welfare reform law, and Section 642 of the new immigration law, would effectively invalidate New York City’s “Executive Order 124.”

“The federal government’s effort to overturn “Executive Order 124” is not only bad policy, it is a violation of the U.S. Constitution. It is my opinion that the new law is unfair because discriminates based on immigration status.

I thought Rudy was over the top with his declaration that federal abortion funding was some kind of right. But at the end of the day, that was at least consistent with his 100 percent NARAL rating.

But his claim that the feds could have deported thousands of arrested NYC drug dealers is a complete rewrite of history, given that Rudy fought federal law and federal court orders to block NYC cooperation with the INS about those who might be illegals who were arrested in the city. This is his biggest lie to date. And we need to pound it like the cheap cutlet it is.

NYC was a sanctuary city. He can't run from that. While Rooty may talk about the importance of border security, he also uses the word "regularize" a lot when he talks about his position on immigration reform. A year ago he said he would support comprehensive immigration reform. The same as what is found in Senate bill S.2611, AKA. McCain-Kennedy. The exact same policy proposal that Bush supports.

But here's the low blow of all. From the article:

"Rudy was the Rudy we’ve all seen before, invoking Reagan at every opportunity ..."

Rooty is a shameless liberal.

Wait, take me through this if you get a chance (I don’t know the specifics about Sanctuary Cities, etc.). Is this an obvious lie because Giuliani’s policies would have prohibited the cops from identifying drug dealers as illegal immigrants in the first place? I.e., how would he know those couple hundred drug dealers were illegal immigrants in the first place?

This is my shameless attempt to get SHOKED in the lexicon. ;-)

But it never happens that way — it usually happens when someone puts it in a title and they get mercilessly teased about it. You know, dozens or hundreds of posts. That’s how it ends up in the lexicon. When it’s only one or two people that respond, it’s doomed to be a non-lexicon item. That really stunes my beeber.
