Russia cuts fuel supplies to Estonia amid statue row

moscow • Russia halted deliveries of oil products to Estonia yesterday in a move that coincided with protests in Moscow over the Baltic state’s relocation of a Soviet war memorial.

The cut-off was likely to revive Western fears the Kremlin is using its energy might as a political weapon against ex-Soviet neighbours.

Russia’s state rail monopoly said it planned to carry out maintenance on the rail link to Estonia, disrupting supplies.

Coal exporters said Russian railways had also halted exports of steam coal via Estonia for this month, totalling up to 900,000 tonnes, citing a shortage of railway wagons.

They said Russian rail monopoly RzHD told them they must use their own rail wagons, not RzHD’s, but it has not been possible with such short notice to find alternative wagons.

Moscow and Tallinn have been trading barbs since Estonia last week moved a bronze statue of a Red Army soldier—revered in Russia as a symbol of its huge sacrifices in World War Two — from its spot in the centre of the capital.

"Now those same Chechens are part of the Russian army. Putin sent two battalions of “former rebel” muslim Chechens to Lebanon to help hizb-allah’s jihad against Israel. Russia’s population is almost a quarter muslim. How much of Russia’s army is muslim, now? Half?" And half of NATo are ex-Soviet, Ex-Hitler allies that were your sworn enemies for 50 years!? I belive that poles and Czech, Hungarians and Bulgarians aswell as 1/2 of Germany were set to kill Americans for about 50 years? And they were as much as friendly to Hitler and Stalin as they are to US today. Just never, never rely on those countries.

Oh, you have to, you have to.
WOT is not going well, allies such Lithuania, Estonia are silly and unimportant.
WOT must be fought on global level, and must include Russia as ally of USA, like it or not.
Since NATO betrayed US in WOT, you simply have no other choice.
Like it or not, if you don't ally with Russia in WOT (and that means asking them what they want in return, and making equal partners) WOT will be lost.

Our NATO allies are fighting on our side in Afghanistan against the Taliban. Russia has demanded our withdrawal from Afghanistan on the Taliban’s behalf. Russia is not our ally no matter how much we wish they were. Putin said Russia is Islam’s best friend and most reliable partner in the world and that there will be no “Holy Alliance” against Islam.

President Clinton incubated the Taliban regime in Afghanistan for at least three years, despite the fact that it was harboring Osama bin Laden, was responsible for growing 60 percent of the world’s heroin and denied basic human rights to the nation, a U.S. congressman charges.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., says he was belittled, stonewalled and ridiculed for three years for asserting the congressional oversight role in the formulation of foreign policy toward Afghanistan during the last term of the Clinton administration.

We will not win or lose because of our allies. Only we, America, are responsible for victory or defeat. Actually we already won both wars and established new governments in each nation. Now they are only fronts in the War on Terror, which is not a war against other nations, but a war against cowards with no allegiance to any nation. This war could conceivably go on forever, so Russia had better get used to NATO in Central Asia.

Don't you mean "Soviets?" Russian nationalists tell me Soviets weren't Russians, but rather Poles and Georgians and Jews.

Anyway, it was money well spent. Thank God Ronald Reagan brought the EVIL EMPIRE to its knees in Afghanistan and sent them retreating in humiliation and defeat.

If WOT continues like this, there will be no NATO in Central Asia, and Islamists will come to US borders.
WOt is led inadequately, with weak allies while trying to appease Islam on Balkans.
recipe for loosing.

I guess you think we should pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq as Russia has demanded, and then they will be happy and be on our side?

“They maybe did something excessive as they are young but they didn’t vandalise the monument to dead soldiers. And they didn’t unearth the graves. So who is real “savages”?:)”

If Russian savages don’t respect their own buried, they shouldn’t expect anyone else to do this...

I am not trying to add grief to Espinola.

Putin is clever and likely has several options in the works.

"Will Putin ‘run’ again ?"

There will be a convenient 'national emergency' which will make allowance for Vlad to remain in office. The Nashi & other pro-Kremlin front groups shall 'assist' in maintaining order during the election period 'national emergency'.

I am interested in the history of the Russians, first invading Afghanistan, then getting defeated and booted out, thanks to the support of Ronald Reagan against those bastard's Evil Empire.

Yo, Comrade, if Nashi thug Mark Siryn (Putin's Horst Wessel) had not been rioting in Estonia he would not be in an Estonia rest home. Do your Kremlin duty and take comrade Siryk's place in Estonia :)

Supporters of the Kremlin-loyal youth organisation Nashi (Ours) rally in front of the Moscow office of the European Union May 4th, 2007, demanding the release of Mark Siryn, an activist (paid thug) who was arrested in Tallinn last week. The placard showing a portrait of Siryk reads, "Freedom for Mark Siryk". REUTERS/Denis Sinyakov (RUSSIA)

Hot on the Moscow pop charts, comrades it's the expected patriotic Russkie hit song.. Freedom for Mark Siryk" ..(after his 5th year in the Estonian rest home? LOL!

Nashi punks need to remain only in Putinland.

Reciprocity in action.
