” The chicken feed did not have as one of its’ ingredients “pet food”.”

It is my understanding that that is exactly what is happening. Please correct me if I misunderstand.

I believe that the chicken feed had as one of the ingredients the same ingredient that was in the pet food...

Why are the illegal immigrants not going to China?

Because you can wade across the Red River, but the Pacific Ocean is too deep. ;^)

Well, that’s not what it says in the article:

“Lobb said the chicken feed may have been contaminated as a result of a practice common among pet food manufacturers — they sometimes sell their leftover material to manufacturers of chicken and pig feed.”

I seem to remember a correlation between kidney problems and the Atkins diet.

I now wonder if that perhaps this contamination was also related? The CNN report seems to imply that this contamination could be a longstanding problem.

“Maybe if we weren’t paying farmers not to grow crops, we wouldn’t be buying grain from China.”
OMG! Dont take this the wrong way but I think I wanna party with you. :) That is so brilliantly true because the same can be said for d@mn near every other kind of commodity you care to mention.

The obvious question is neither asked nor answered: why didn't the chickens die before going to market? Are they immune to substances that kill cats and dogs? Are the concentrations of the contaminants lower?

I'm going to guess that chicken farmers do not primarily feed their chickens on rejected pet food, simply because there's not enough pet food. They'll buy a shipment if it's cheap, though. Any melamine in the pet food is probably heavily diluted by all the other stuff in the chickens diet

Has anyone been to their doctor for ordinary blood tests and as a result then been sent for a special kidney function test?

I have a friend who has a reduced kidney function and the doctor is going to watch it from now on. This just happened as all the recalls started.

Chicken for dinner tonight -- eeeeekkkkk...

So if there is no danger, why don't they tell us who is selling these chickens that were contaminated -- also what about farmed fish, what kibble were they fed?

Duncan Hunter is the only candidate who has said anything along the lines of realistic in terms of the political dealings with China when it comes to this kind of situation. Just in time for the debate.

I’m calling Perdue tomorrow. From what they say on their site it looks like they use local grain to feed the chickens.

Grain merchandising

Our commitment to local grain origination provides area farmers a local market that offers competitive prices. In addition, our grain merchandising programs help farmers maximize income from all their grain crops.

We had chicken for dinner tonight too! I found this info about Gold ‘n Plump chicken:

“Gold’n Plump mills its own feed from locally grown corn, soybean meal, vitamins, minerals, and other natural ingredients. Our proprietary nutritious feed recipes are created with the help of a nutritionist—and balanced to meet the changing dietary needs of growing chickens.”
