People have eaten millions of chickens that were given feed tainted with recalled pet food, federal officials said Tuesday, though they said the threat to human health is minimal.
The announcement came after an investigation of chicken farms in Indiana found that 38 of the facilities had given contaminated feed to poultry raised for human consumption, and that 2.5 million to 3 million people ate them.
The officials added that they expect to discover that chickens on possibly hundreds of farms in other states were also given tainted feed.

Q: As President, is there anything you could do about this acquiescence to cheating?
Hunter: Right now, China rebates their taxes to their manufacturers. They give a 17-percent subsidy to their products and a 17-percent penalty to our products. Before you even compare labor, component prices and commodity prices, they have a 34-percent advantage before the game even starts. Then they devalue their currency by 40 percent to make sure the American manufacturer doesn’t win. That is cheating.
We need to have a government that says that is cheating. [Fed Chairman Ben] Bernanke had that in so many words written in his speech that he was going to give in China [in December], but it was changed before he gave it to the Chinese leadership. That is not acceptable.
China’s CHEATING is also what caused the food problems. China wanted to make it look like there was more protein than there was.
We go out of our way, when possible to avoid anything shipped out of Red China.
Then why did the FDA warn the CDC to be on the alert for a possible rash of kidney failures????
Gee, that's so good to know. And I always trust whatever "federal officials" tell me, don't you? They've done such a great job of protecting our food supply. < /s>
“If they labelled food correctly we would have no problem letting the market decide that Chinese crap would gather an inch of dust on store shelves.”
All of the frozen brocolli comes from Mexico, I have noticed. Now, I’m not angry with Mexico, as I am with China, but I’m afraid to eat Mexican food. The brocolli always says that it’s from Mexico.
ANYWAY, I noticed that when there is just a little brocolli in a frozen product, the package might only say from USA.
So I conclude that they only have to tell us if it’s 100% from another country.
That sounds about right. I used to do some consulting for a poultry producers, and those sorts of numbers were around. They’d know it to the day, how many pounds of feed, etc.
It was fairly interesting. They had problems in that most ERP software is designed with the model that you assemble a bunch of parts to make a completed product. In the chicken business, you grow your raw material, then chop it up into a bunch of parts, which you sell. It’s backwards from the standard ERP model.
Commercially grown chickens are confined into miserable huge houses & are fed a diet so laced with drugs, hormones, antibiotics that they are surely immune to little ol’ melamine. An arsenic based product is added to thier feed...it is a problem in this neck of the woods as is suspected of being a potential culprit in the high incidence of “ rare” cancers that are occuring. The chicken litter which contains the residue of the arsenic is spread on fields, the dusty litter blows evwerywhere. It has been found inside school classrooms in concentrations to set off a red flag. But good news, the big chicken companies will be moving the chicken production to China & Latin America, so we won’t have to worry about all the dust blowing arsenic into our schools.
Yeah. Just don’t eat the gizzards!!!!!!!
I heard that hormones aren’t allowed in chicken any more.
I understand that at least 50% of the garlic cloves, powder and othe r”garlic” products comes from China. I bought some garlic gloves a few months ago & when I got home I saw it was from China. Won’t buy anymore. We should demand truth in country of origin for all food. A lot of so-called “organic” produce is coming from China & other countries with NO checks or regulations. Just becuz something is “organic” doesn’t mean it is safe to eat. This is getting really bad. I have many cats, dogs, ferrets & chickens. I am caring for a freind’s two cats. I am scared everytime I feed my critters. I lost a beautiful Pyrenese in Feb...initial diagnosis was some type of poison. I lost 2 cats in April (cause-cancer & ?). All 3 young animals.
Sorry for your loss Lucy.
(((((((((hugz)))))))))))
Ha ! Really, better not believe that.
Maybe if we werent feeding our crops to our gas tanks, we wouldnt need feed from China.
Maybe if we weren’t paying our farms to NOT grow food we wouldn’t need feed from China.
Sorry for your loss ghostcatz.
Click on my name and see my baby.
Oops, I had chicken for dinner.
Just another reason to FReep before cooking.
Thank you, sweetiepiezer.
Feed the Fed’s
Plus all kinds of “organic” (ha ha) food comes from China now. I’ve been looking into this. All that is needed for Chinese (or any country) food to be sold in the US and labeled “organic” is paper shuffling. They could label bags of straight melamine “organic” and if they paperwork was in line it would be just fine.
Minimal? Well, now that I've heard that definitive statement I feel better.
McCormick garlic powder labels says CHINA, but an organic garlic powder that I got says USA.
