Saint Louis (AP) -- An invitation to Sen. Claire McCaskill to speak at her daughter's graduation from a Roman Catholic high school was withdrawn because of her positions on abortion and stem cell research.
Students at all-girls St. Joseph's Academy in the St. Louis suburb of Frontenac wanted to have McCaskill speak at their commencement this month, McCaskill spokeswoman Adrianne Marsh said Tuesday.
But the offer was rescinded last week. The president of St. Joseph's, Sister Michaela Zahner, said she reluctantly made the decision after receiving a call from the St. Louis Archdiocese.
. . . The senator was told by the school that the decision came from Archbishop Raymond Burke, Marsh said.

Agreed — although there are a handful of those ones, too.

Well, when our Holy Father was elected, they did say as the cafeteria doors would be closing soon!

While you are at it, please tell me how this part-time Catholicism works.Gladly. These cafeteria Catholics or "part-time" Catholics really belong in the Episcopal church where homosexual behavior is celebrated, embryos are not valued and abortion is okay, but the weasels either believe that the Catholic church will change or they don't want to dissapoint their families by leaving the faith. These cafeterians make excellent democrat politicians (I say that in the most negative way) because hypocrisy helps their careers and morals and principles don't matter. Good examples: Kerry, Pelosi, Kennedy, Mikulski and many others. By the way, Mikulski is the ultimate cafeterian in that she is a homosexual as well as 100% pro-death culture.

Your comments are ill informed. May I suggest a subscription to First Things as a convenient way to become better informed on issues of doctrine, theology and religion in the public square?

I’ll go one step further. Not only was this the right thing to do in this case, McCaskill’s position on Life Issues IN GENERAL make her UNFIT for any office. Not only this, but it renders her COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT on all topics. If she can’t get Life right, what she thinks about anything else is irrelevant.

I can help you there. Its not a web site, but there is a loose association of us that began with the St. Stanislaus flap and has continued through to today:
Send an eMail here: defendabpburke@sbcglobal.net and express your praise of our BELOVED Archbishop.

Where can I see a copy of this letter.
I am not doubting you, but I have asked others this same question and no one has been able to direct me to an official source.
Thanks

Stupid Bishop. The guy has singlehandedly turned off the entire St. Louis community. The guy looks like an intolerant fool. Actually quite the opposite The community supports his and his principles. Vocations are up in his diocese and so is Chruch attendance You might consider checking facts before shooting off your mouth. If he was so proud of his intolerance, why did he race his PR people out yesterday to claim he had nothing to do with withdrawing McCaskill's invitation? And I suppose the while Sheryl Crowe thing was just a publicity stunt?

Good post. I suspect, though, you meant it for the attention of Smithl (Post 24),

Pretty important omission if you ask me! And absolutely intentional.
