PROBLEM: Poisonous or Deleterious Substance Unfit For Food Unsafe Food Additive
COUNTRY: China (CN)
REASON FOR ALERT: In recent weeks, there has been an outbreak of cat and dog deaths and illness associated with pet food manufactured with vegetable proteins contaminated with melamine and melamine related compounds. In response to this outbreak, FDA has been conducting an aggressive and intensive investigation. Pet food manufacturers and others have recalled dog and cat food and other suspect products and ingredients. This has been one of the largest pet food recalls in history, a recall that continues to expand.
Thus far, 18 firms have recalled product, 17 Class I and 1 class II, covering over 5,300 product lines. As of April 26, 2007, FDA had received over 17,000 consumer complaints relating to this outbreak, and those complaints included reports of approximately 1950 deaths of cats and 2200 deaths of dogs. The Agency is working with federal, state, and local governments, academia, and industry to assess the extent of the outbreak, better understand how melamine and melamine related compounds contributed to the pet deaths and illnesses, and to determine the underlying cause of the contamination.

You can rest very assured about Pioneer. They have been around for generations and are located in San Antonio. Most everybody that grew up in South Texas has eaten Pioneer products. Pioneer products are the best.
As a side note, my Marketing group for my MBA did a study for Pioneer that the company found very interesting and useful. That’s why I have so much confidence in their products.
Is melamine explosive? I know it’s used in fertilizer.
Oops, meant to add your name too!
No that’s the list from the FDA. I can’t find anything that matches, however I’m not sure if wheat or rice starch and flour might be made up of protein or gluten.
I live in a rural area of Southern Alabama...all the cows in the fields around here have an ID tag in each ear. Each cow is tracked while in the field and the meat can be traced all the way from these fields to your dinner table. Mad Cow Disease and such.
I just saw your post with all the websites and bookmarked them. Thanks oodles for the list.
I don’t know either. I have a year old grandson and I think his mom feeds him whatever they eat. I need to warn her about this. I’m sure she doesn’t even know. She isn’t prone to reading the news, not that it’s been discussed anywhere but here.
Thanks so much for all those links! I sure do appreciate your effort.
We feed animals filth and wonder why they become diseased. Now we're eating filth directly.
That idea died when the free-market libertarians took over. No more buggywhip industries for us! We're all "knowledge workers" now!
Until the other shoe drops.
The pets who were sickened by the contaminated food became acutely ill very quickly. As in a couple of days.
Be my guest!
Thank you!
$10,000 per organ. The Chinese take DNA samples of all of their Death Row inmates and when an organ order comes in,
Viola! It’s execution time.
No genetic match currently in “inventory”?
No problem, round up a dissident, a Catholic, a Falon Gong or anyone else matching the profile you need.
I’ll post it.
Now it’s “milk replacement” for young animals.....

Manna Pro Recalls Young Animal Feed
May 1st, 2007
It’s not known if this is related to the melamine recalls, but Manna Pro is asking their customers to discard their Uni-Milk milk replacement product for young animals.
This recall was announced March 30 and is not listed on the FDA site.

Interestingly, as of about a week ago, the FDA would only confirm approximately 3 dead dogs and 5 dead cats (or some other miniscule number). Suddenly now they've upped the figures considerably.
Sounds like the definition I learned in high school chemistry.
