I assume the author meant 1979 when referring to former President James "Jimmy" Carter and then National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski mishandling the Iran crisis. Otherwise a terrific opinion piece.

Peace between the wider Arab world and the Jewish state is not impossible.”
Absolutely right. Kill off and run off all the Jews and the Arab world would be at peace with the Jewish “state”.
Of course, then the Arabs would be tracking down the rest of the worlds Jews and killing them.
Then, with the Jewish “problem” solved, it would be “give us Kansas for a state of our own or there will be ((((JIHAD))))!!!!!”.

I go one better:
The Arabs have done nothing (much) in making peace with the rest of the world....by squashing the terrorist activity.
It’s time the world leaned on them to take more responsibility to control terrorist and homicide bombers.

The author left out one thing.
Humiliation.
One cannot talk about Arabs without some discussion of the humiliation they have suffered.
