On Mike Deaver & Fred Thompson: A Response
Red State ^ | 4/30/07

Posted on 04/30/2007 6:32:35 PM PDT by areafiftyone

Earlier, Mark Kilmer wrote about a Daily Telegraph article that appeared yesterday - focusing on very complimentary things that Mike Deaver had to say about Fred Thompson (which, by the way, I circulated to the RedState contributor list without actually checking with Mike, which was pretty dumb)

Since this article has been swirling around, I talked with Mike about the news. He asked me to post this note, crystal clear:

“Fred Thompson is a great guy, but I haven’t endorsed anyone in the Republican primary, and don’t intend to.”

FWIW, the article was written based on a video that Mike recorded for some London colleagues, you can see the entire context here.

Yup, he's right, what is in the video is not what was quoted in the article.

Doesn't mean he won't say that later. ;-D

He very well could endorse him later.

Fair enough. But given who he used to work for, I doubt he'd give Rudy the "great guy" endorsement.

Then there's public endorsements, and then there's private ones. And sometimes private ones can go a lot farther. Depends on who's ears are whispered in.

Looks like this guy doesn’t want to endorse anyone. Stay neutral is the best I guess for him at this point.

Well he did say “the primaries”. The GE might be another matter, depending on who gets the nom.

Look who’s speaking at the Lincoln Club. Guiliani would swear off dresses for a lifetime if he could take Fred’s place at the event.

I DONT THINK RUDY IS THE LEAST BIT WORRIED: From the Orange County Register

Jon Fleischman, who publishes the Flash Report website that follows statewide Republican politics, said he's seen that dynamic in action during several fundraising dinners. "I've seen the presence of Rudy Giuliani in a room cause a lot of conservatives to just put a lot of ideological differences on the back burner," he said. "He walks into a room and silences it." Looking at federal campaign finance data, it also appears that he can also cause a people to reach into their wallets. To date, Romney is the leading Republican presidential candidate in Orange County, raising more than $653,000. Giuliani – who has yet to even formally announce his candidacy – is second with $444,000.This week, Giuliani and Romney will get competition from former Republican Senator Fred Thompson, who comes into town for a highly-touted speech to the Lincoln Club, an influential supporter of Republican candidates and causes.

But several observers note that Giuliani has positioned himself ideally in Orange County by grabbing the opportunity of addressing the Lincoln Club's Flag Day dinner in June, with an anticipated crowd of more than 2,000 Republican activists.

"Mitt Romney has established a beachhead here in Orange County that will be tough to beat," Fleischman said. "He came in early and really impressed a lot of the right people."

But he notes that the Flag Day dinner will offer Giuliani "a pivotal moment to see if he can change the momentum in Orange County."

Okay, so instead of an official endorsement, Mike Deaver “only” lavished high praise on Fred Thompson. Hey, that works pretty well too, LOL!

Let’s listen to Mr. Deaver on the race for the White House:

Hmmm. Not much positive there for Rudy...

I don't think so. Rasmussen Poll from Today:

Giuliani - 30%
F. Thompson - 14%

At least 50% I would say, but if it turns out its 100% then it is no one’s fault but the people who created the hype.

Fred Thompson = 100% Hype

LOL! Try this on for size. Thompson is strong on substance, and has the ability to present it in an accessible manner.
