People who attend their “Church” in the name of Christianity may just as well attend the Church of the Law of Attraction, or the Church of “The Secret”.

These type televangelists simply place a christian spin on the law of attraction and things you learn from the Secret.

BUT yet Christian friends will state “The Secret” is against Christian teachings and are blasphemus. I would say to them than why are you supporting the Osteen “Church” and buying their books, videos, and tapes?

They are millionaires under the guise of tax exempt, non-profit status and they get away with it.
If you want to sell that junk and be a millionaire don’t do it under the false guise of tax-exempt! Or as a “Church”.

Y’know, I’m not going to question Joel Osteen’s Christian credentials—I don’t know what’s in the guy’s heart. I have no reason to doubt that he is a sincere Christian.

But God forgive me, I CANNOT watch him for longer than a few minutes. He creeps me out. The odd mannerisms, the weird look, the fixed smile, the voice...he just gives me the willies!

What does the Osteen’s worth have to do with damages, if any, that the attendant suffered?

The one thing that has NEVER made sense to me is why, if they are as wealthy as most people seem to think, are they flying commercial in the first place?

Some poor law suit winner is still waiting for his check from Al Sharpton.

Sounds like an awfully premature request and more of an effort in financial voyeurism . First, win the plaintiff must win his case and get a judgement. If a claim of inability to pay the judgement is made by the defendant, then and only then is a review made, and even then it may be done privately.

When Joseph was thrown into prison in Egypt and later encountered Pharoah’s baker and butler he interpreted dreams each one had.
Joseph preached the blessing to the butler and did not shrink back from preaching the curse to the baker.
Joel Osteen preaches butler’s sermons only. He does not have the faith of Joseph!

Jesus was wealthy as well, but I don’t see anyone here throwing stones at Him. Go figure.

Money is amoral. Nowhere does the Bible condemn anyone for being wealthy. It is what is contained inside a man’s heart that counts.

No one ever said, “Money is the root to all evil”.

I am not Joel’s biggest fan, because as others have stated, he really only preaches good, neglecting to call out sin and the “narrow path” we Christians are to walk. But he DID apoloze for his poor defense of the Christian faith when he appeared on LKL a few years ago. In fact “terriergirl” posted the apology here on FR on 7/1/05. Apparently it was initially posted on the Lakewood Church website:

Dear Friend,

Many of you have called, written or e-mailed regarding my recent appearance on Larry King Live. I appreciate your comments and value your words of correction and encouragement.

It was never my desire or intention to leave any doubt as to what I believe and Whom I serve. I believe with all my heart that it is only through Christ that we have hope in eternal life. I regret and sincerely apologize that I was unclear on the very thing in which I have dedicated my life.

Jesus declared in John 14; I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me. I believe that Jesus Christ alone is the only way to salvation. However, it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to review the transcript of the interview that I realize I had not clearly stated that having a personal relationship with Jesus is the only way to heaven. It’s about the individual’s choice to follow Him.

God has given me a platform to present the Gospel to a very diverse audience. In my desire not to alienate the people that Jesus came to save, I did not clearly communicate the convictions that I hold so precious.

I will use this as a learning experience and believe that God will ultimately use it for my good and His glory. I am comforted by the fact that He sees my heart and knows my intentions. I am so thankful that I have friends, like you, who are willing to share their concerns with me.

Thank you again to those who have written. I hope that you accept my deepest apology and see it in your heart to extend to me grace and forgiveness.

As always, I covet your prayers and I am believing for God’s best in your life,

Joel Osteen
Pastor - Lakewood Church

Isn’t this one of the mega-churches that don’t hold Christmas morning services because of the cost of turning on the lights or something?
