United Nations IPCC: Fourth Assessment Report Released
United Nations ^ | 29 April 2007 | I got the rope

Posted on 04/29/2007 4:56:09 PM PDT by I got the rope

This Working Group I contribution to the IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) provides a comprehensive assessment of the physical science of climate change and continues to broaden the view of that science, following on from previous Working Group I assessments. The results presented here are based on the extensive scientific literature that has become available since completion of the IPCC’s Third Assessment Report, together with expanded data sets, new analyses, and more sophisticated climate modelling capabilities. This report has been prepared in accordance with rules and procedures established by the IPCC and used for previous assessment reports. The report outline was agreed at the 21st Session of the Panel in November 2003 and the lead authors were accepted at the 31st Session of the IPCC Bureau in April 2004. Drafts prepared by the authors were subject to two rounds of review and revision during which over 30,000 written comments were submitted by over 650 individual experts as well as by governments and international organizations. Review Editors for each chapter have ensured that all substantive government and expert review comments received appropriate consideration. The Summary for Policymakers was approved line-by-line and the underlying chapters were then accepted at the 10th Session of IPCC Working Group I from 29 January to 1 February 2007.

Damn. I was hoping for a nice sunny week, but with this report being released we are guaranteed a big snow storm is going to materialize.

It is funny how the IPCC is spreading out all these reports to maximize the propaganda effect and to get maximum news coverage. This ain't science, it is propaganda at its worse.

I’m sure the libs are going to start a steady drumbeat with this while they increase electricity prices. I’ll give it a few days for the media to jump on board.

We need to cut this thing to pieces. Doing an initial search I found that the lead authors are citing their own papers many times.

The IPCC report debunks much of what Algore, and other GW alarmists are predicting. For instance, Gore’s AIC scares people with a 20 foot sea level rise scenario — IPCC predicts about a foot and a half.

Self proclaimed environmentalists keep harping on the “scientific consensus” — we can easily show that their prognostications are much further from the “consensus” than those of the “deniers”.

The history of the IPCC report is that it is conveniently modified by the politicians to support the global warming agenda after the scientists basically state that they don’t have the scientific ability to quantify or predict long term climate change (i.e., we don’t have a clue). But the media only reports the politician’s add on in the introduction and summary of the report, not the content of the scientist’s doubts in the body of the report. This is standard operating procedure for the media who has never seen an agenda it couldn’t push by omitting key information from the public.

I agree with everything you said.

It is futile to attempt to discredit the IPCC reports. The MSM is holding them up as scripture — all the while spinning and cherry-picking as you say. What I’m suggesting is to use the IPCC reports to counter the baseless ravings of the GW alarmists. The alarmists simply dismiss evidence from any other source as “right wing propaganda, bought and paid for by the oil industry”. They can’t simply dismiss “facts” in the IPCC report. Al Gore is further from IPCC than the most vehement “denier”. (Maybe that’s me.)

- IPCC predicts about a foot and a half.

And about 1/3 of that increase would happen even if AGW were not happening at all. The base steady-state rise (without any AGW-induced increase) is about 2mm/year. That equates to about 8 inches in a century.

I think the key to defusing the global alarmists success with environmental fear mongering, is to point out to people that the scientific arguments for the worse case scenarios take place over hundreds to thousands of years. Once people understand these timelines, they will understand they are being manipulated and played for fools.
