If Luciano Melendres had been deported to Mexico following his 2006 arrest for driving drunk – or even if a judge last week hadn't suspended his six-month jail sentence and given him 12 months probation – Dacus Lamont Sims, 32, would be alive today.

Why do these illegals seem to go out of their way to drive drunk and kill Americans? Then they get slapped on the wrist - it’s as if they have diplomatic immunity.

As I understand it, drunk driving is kind of a national past time in Mexico. Basically you have to hit a cop car to get arrested for it.

We are a nation of laws, lawyers, and lawmakers, but when our so called leaders do not have the will to enforce the law, then we are a lawless nation.

Why can we not have a way to hold judges responsible for their decisions like this (and so many others who give criminals light sentences who re-commit, including pedophiles and these drunken illegals)?

For an intellectually disinenuous individual: the first DUI is not a wake-up call (merely harrasement by The Man) and the second DUI was merely a mistake ("if but for, would of, could've, should've...").

Doubt might be instilled by the 3rd incident.

D-E-N-I-A-L is not a river in Egypt but an acronymn; it is foundational to the recidivism rate of ~80%. The recidivism rate speaks volumes of how entrenched intoxication is part and parcel of the lifestyle of the recidivist.

I believe the movie is called Season of Wine & Roses with Jack Klugman and several other stars who rendered excruciatingly excellent performances, is a must see for everybody. That B&W movie made in the early '60's is just as relevant today as it was then; even moreso today. If one can't see themselves in that movie, then they're abhorently disinenguous.

Stricter alchohol driving-laws won't solve this problem.

If somebody gets pulled over for some traffic infraction, and they prove intoxicated they get taken to jail. They are let go with a misdemeanor ticket when their BAC is within legal limits. They're charged for the time spent in the custody of the State.

Insurance companies will adjust their rates according to the actuarial risk to their bottom line for those who have any history of operation of a motorized vehicle while at least impaired. Operation of a motor vehicle without insurance a felony.

Insurance companies should be required by law to spread out financial risk to the insurer exclusively among the pool of motor vehicle operators that insist upon placing everybody else around them at "risk".

Operating a motor vehicle without suitable insurance is akin to brandishing/firing a firearm in a crowd. If somebody is harmed while the operator is under the influence of drugs, then they are as guilty as recklessly discharging a firearm in a crowd.

I know who that guy is generically (the alien status issue notwithstanding) and can empathize with him, however h I have no sympathy whatsoever for him, his predicament, or whatever translational damage ma be caused to those who depend upon him for sustainance. In Mexico if an American on vacation requires medical attention excellent care is available; the receipient can absolutly not leave until payment is rendered in full in cash.

It’s an important part of the Latino culture to get dead drunk every weekend and drive, many times with children in the back seat. They don’t need no steenkeen driver’s license or insurance, either.

Yes, and once the concept of a nation of laws dies, the country will die also. Both the Republicans and the Democrats seem oblivious to what is happening. We have large and growing areas where law enforcement is the exception rather than the rule. We will end up with the Latin and South American model with gated and guarded enclaves for those with the means and a debased and violent existence for those outside the walls.

As it is, Melendres is back in jail for a second offense, this time charged with DWI, felony hit-and-run, driving with a license revoked, not having insurance and a registration violation, the Charlotte, North Carolina, Observer reported.

Sims, who was hit while crossing a Charlotte street earlier this week, died at the scene.

"Why can we not have a way to hold judges responsible for their decisions like this (and so many others who give criminals light sentences who re-commit, including pedophiles and these drunken illegals)?"

I've long said that judges who (early) turn loose violent criminals on an unsuspecting society, should have to serve the criminal's sentence if they commit any further crimes. The same thing whould hold true for slimebag lawyers who lie like rugs to get a slap on the wrist for criminals they KNOW are as guilty as sin. If we could get this passed, the jails would hold more judges and lawyers than they do ordinary criminals. Bleeding heart judges and lawyers should be held accountable when their beloved offenders reoffend. Let 'em out early, and then whatever he does comes back in your lap judge and lawyer. I'll bet plea bargains would go the way of the do-do bird.

There are TWO SETS OF LAWS in America now. Those for us, the REAL citizens, and another set for politicians and illegal Mexicans....Adams, Jefferson, Franklin and Madison are rolling over in their graves, howling loudly. I feel their pain.
