NEW YORK: For years, few advertisers in the United States have dared to reach out to Muslims.

Either they did not see much potential for sales or they feared a political backlash. And there were practical reasons: Muslim-Americans come from so many ethnic backgrounds that their only common ground is their religion, a subject most marketers avoid.

Now, though, that is beginning to change.

They do, but the process is slower than we’d like. First-generation families tend to cling to the old culture, whether it be Italian, Yiddish, Arabic, or Chinese they speak.

It is funny we didn’t have stories like this before 9-11. Maybe they should try to reach out to lonely psychopaths like Cho? I just hate the phoniness.

A large segment of America has a severe case of Stockholm Syndrome in relation to Islamic terrorists, and this is NOT sarcasm. Fear is dictating much of the bizarre behavior of the American left; they’ve become convinced, probably subconsciously, that their survival is now dependent on pleasing their new psychological masters.

The true believers are waiting for the day when America will become an Islamic republic, complete with Sharia law. They have no intention of assimilating with the Infidels.

Because theirs is a “separate but inequal” culture. Muslims are superior to kufir and wish to instill Islamic law. In some communities they are seeking to have an alternate court system.

It is an incompatible ideology. It is political as much as it is religious. As Islamic nations are not very accepting of non-muslims in their midst, I don’t understand why we have no problem with those same nations engaging in the funding and missionary work of new mosques in the West.

Mosque and State doesn’t seem to be a concern (even if that State is a foreign power acting in America).

It seems the ties that bind, don't really apply if you're a Sunni in a Shiite 'hood.
They can't live with themselves, how are we supposed to live with them??

In a capitalistic society it is quite common to identify a market and then target it to make a profit from the sales of an item or service.

Sometimes a service or product is aimed towards a customer base that no one else will even touch with the proverbial ten foot pole.

Once the market is proven viable, others will soon begin to target the same customer base to cash in on the popularity of the service or item.

However perhaps the question should be asked before certain groups are targeted as customers: What are the possible unintended repercussions of the targeting of this particular customer base? Is it possible that they will become more and more comfortable living in this country without assimilating?

What is the end result of groups and cultures (such as Illegals and Muslims) not assimilating and proliferating in the American society.

I disagree. This is completely about profit. Any group that has a large enough share of purchasing power will be a target for marketing efforts. It is about selling more products an making more money.

A vast majority of those working in marketing are so wrapped up in their own lives, they are completely unaware of things happening in the world.

I used to work part-time on weekends at a very nice campground (gave me somethin to do other than nothin) that had a trailer park next door (about 1/4 mile away)..we’d get a lot of mexicans in there that spoke no english and they’d get upset with us because we didn’t speak spanish. they sent a mexican over who spoke some english and he told us he’d like to have the management hire a spanish speaking person to be there to assist them. we basically told them that “this is america, speak english”..amazingly, he would show up with guys who previously didn’t speak english, and helped them in english to communicate with us..

one actually came in about 6 months later and said in broken, but understandable english, he didn’t realize it wasn’t as difficult as he thought it would be and it was helping HIM because now he could talk to more people..

Over the next few weeks, JWT plans to reach out to the chief executives of all of its major clients, including Ford Motor and HSBC, to encourage them to market to Muslims in the United States and Britain.

Halal cars? A compass that points towards Mecca? Special storage area for a Koran? The possibilities are endless!

The keyword "rewarding911" is correct. The reason that people kowtow to this religion is that their fellows might cut your head off. Nobody does this for (genuine) Bhuddists or Hindus.

And especially not Mormons.
