RVING, Texas Actor Fred Thompson said today that the top U-S general in Iraq convinced him that it's wrong to set a timetable for withdrawing from Iraq. Thompson says the U-S should leave -- quote -- "our terms and not al-Qaida's."
Thompson is a former senator considering a presidential run. Polls show Thompson is well-liked in a Republican field for 2008, but he deflected questions today about a White House run.
Thompson and former Senator Bill Bradley spoke to about 100 guests today at a professional golf tournament sponsored by Electronic Data Systems.
Bradley, a former presidential candidate, tweaked his former Senate colleague a couple times about the White House flirtation.
Thompson says the United States has made -- quote -- "a lot of mistakes" in the execution of the war. But he criticized congressional Democrats' plan to set a timetable for withdrawal.
Just so he picks a strong vp candidate and gets through the election. Fred is the only Republican so far that satisfies almost all Republicans. It's time to announce.
The problem is that Fred may have said that but the DBM didn't report it.
Good point.
RVING? Isn’t that a little town right outside of ALLAS? ;-)
There’s not much of anything I could hate this guy on. I do hope he runs.
I am reminded of the old joke in which the commander says with his back to the privates. "If anyone wishes to volunteer for this dangerous duty, please step forward." All but one private steps back leaving the one up and front.
The problem isn't that Fred is starting late, it's that all the others have started early. Fred still has time to announce. Even without announcing he is ahead of several and nipping at the heals at all the others. Once he announces he will have only two to catch up with: Giuliani and McCain. I don't think either will be hard to catch once FT gets in the race.
Oops.
*Blush*
Fred keeps on getting better and better.
Several other candidates also have cancer—it’s not a death sentence any more, and if there’s a ‘good’ kind to have, it’s the kind Fred has—asymptomatic and not likely to cause many problems.
I think Fred looks GREAT!! And sounds GREAT! And has GREAT ideas already for someone who hasn’t even declared himself in the race. :-) Once he announces, you’re gonna see some history making things happen on a grassroots level, mark my words. :-)
Run, FRed, RUN!! :-)
I thought it was when you go sightseeing in one of them motorized mobile homes that retired people take around the country—you know, winnebago types? ;-)
And wasn’t that a bad Robin Williams movie awhile back?
