An 8-year-old Auckland boy and a teenage girl were attacked yesterday by two vicious pitbull terriers, which police wanted to shoot as soon as they saw them.
Jackson Williams, 8, was dragged to the ground by the dogs and bitten before bystanders pulled them off him; 15-year-old Te Aroha Pakuivi was bitten on the leg. Jackson received stitches from the mauling, which was the third in Papakura in just 24 hours.
The latest attack comes a week after 56-year-old Murupara woman Virginia Ohlson was mauled to death by an unregistered pitbull and a Staffordshire cross.
The owner of the dog that attacked the children yesterday, Nick Moke, 36, last night said he knew his 3-year-old pitbull Cyrus was dangerous. He identified the other dog in the attack as Tyson, a 6-year-old pitbull.

ok I feel it is defiantly he owners responsibility to properly train their dogs and to properly care for them, obviously these people did not do such, I understand sometimes animals can naturally be feisty but regardless you should not single out a whole breed because of a few bad apples. to be honest I am out raged that so many supposed animal lovers do say to wipe the breed. ask yourself this, this dog has been known to attack and kill other animals, which is most likely why it was being held in the laundry room, why have an animal that you know is of this nature and keep it with a toddler in the home. I find it very appalling that so many people wish to wipe out that breed of dog when they are not all bad. I have seen my fair share of animals, pit bulls included and never been bitten by an animal classified as “a vicious breed” yet I have been bitten by a chocolate lab who are supposedly docile. learn to care for your animals properly and this wont happen, my condolences do go out to the family for their loss but this is ridiculous, you cant wipe an entire breed because of this. that is like saying humans kill other humans and animals so they should also be killed. an eye for an eye leaves the world blind and apparently the whole world is blind that think they can solve the problem of pit bulls attacking by wiping the breed, because then the next breed will be on the chopping block. why don’t you people spend your time stopping pit wars, puppy mills, and things of that nature instead of pointing the finger at the dog, find the initial cause of these problems because it isn’t the dog it is the humans raising them.
