Around 1480, give or take, they detained some hermit on suspicion of being a would-be Lorenzo the Magnificent assassin. So, after the customary rack, they skinned the soles of his feet and kept them to the fire till the fat started dripping - and then they made him walk. The guy lasted for about 10-12 days under such interrogation, if memory holds.
