The IDF on Thursday held intensive training maneuvers in preparation for a feared Syrian attack on the Golan Heights.

Hundreds of tanks and thousands of soldiers, backed by helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, massed in the Judean Desert to drill simulations of war. The training exercise focused on Brigade 401 and its utilization of Israel's most advanced tank - the Merkava Mark 4 - against the Syrian advanced Russian-made T-72.

Since the Second Lebanon War, Military Intelligence has claimed that war with Syria is now closer than ever, and the IDF is on heightened alert in the North in preparation for the possibility of a surprise attack.

more and more rumblings of another war this summer involving Israel and Syria

The whole middle east is a tinderbox, which I could envision embroiling Israel/US and Syria/Hezbollah/Hamas/Iran/Al-Quada

I second that. I could just do without the first 2 or 3 days of the Yom-Kippur war where the Syrians and Egyptians gave the IDF a run for their money

A friend asked me to go with her to Syria this summer . . . I think I’d better pass.

I suppose the Democrats will draft legislation calling for the withdrawal of Israel from the Middle East.

This is perfect, right on the heels of Madame Prissosi’s trip where she told them Israel was ready to negotiate for peace. HA!

unbelieveably, yes

despite his handling of the war and allegations of corruption he still manages to hold onto power. For how much longer, probably not too long

Don't give them any ideas.

I would much prefer a rerun of the Six Day War. Israel came within a hairbreadth of losing the Yom Kipper War (from underestimating the enemy) and were only saved by huge restocking from the U.S. which severely cut into U.S. war reserves, lowering the threshold for nuclear war in case of a Soviet invasion of western Europe.

A six day war probably isn't in the cards, the Arabs have spent the last forty years building harden shelters for their air forces; it's unlikely a preemptive strike could knock them out quite so quickly.

drama queen - who, me?

if history is any guide, I think all the players i mentioned could be involved in a regional conflict on short notice

now if I said Russia and China were going to intervene and we were on the verge of a nuclear houlocast, then yea, a “drama queen” reference may be in order

i agree a “6 day war” like back in 67’ would be preferrable, but the politics of today do not allow it

I suppose if Netanyahu were to find his way back in the PMs seat, some type of pre-emptive move may be possible
