We are at “war” with the Democrats, if we want to characterize the election as a war. If Rudy was so liberal, the Dems would not be caterwallling as they are about his comments and his positions. They seem to fear him a great deal.
And B'rer Rabbit really "feared" that briar patch, too. Open your eyes, they're building him up in the eyes of GOP voters by opposing him, because they know they can beat him. Hillary, especially, needs someone with Guiliani's high negatives to offset her own.
The whole "only Rudy can beat Hillary" argument is multiply false. Even if Clinton is the candidate (falsehood #1 presumes this is a given), Guiliani is her ideal opponent (falsehood #2: Guiliani can beat Clinton; falsehood #3: no other GOP candidate could beat Clinton).
They hate him because he is not a democrat. Plus, he supports the war in Iraq (at least this week, maybe he'll "evolve" on that as well).
Of course, this kind of destroys the argument that Rudy appeals to liberals and independents and therefore can beat Hillary.
And it's funny to attribute any rationality to the democrats actions, other than that they want a person in the white house with a "D" by their name, no matter what they believe.
They're afraid of anybody that might upset their "anointed one". I think you'd see them equally afraid, if not more so, if Fred were in the ring right now.
As for being afraid, you think maybe Rudy's flip-flopping is because he's starting to get the message that there are those of us, a great number of us actually, who are tired of sacrificing core beliefs just because someone has an (R) after their name? Fred's numbers, numbers of a current non candidate, have to be ringing some bells somewhere in Rudy central.
Now if we could just get the party brain trust to figure that out, we might actually salvage it. Otherwise the GOP in its present form should be renamed the RINO party, and we conservatives can start rebuilding the GOP from the ashes.
It's not just the next election; the war on traditional values transends years and venues.
Our political elections are just one battlefield among many.
