In a startling departure from his previously stated position on civil unions, Mayor Giuliani came out to The New York Sun yesterday evening in opposition to the civil union law just passed by the New Hampshire state Senate.
" Mayor Giuliani believes marriage is between one man and one woman. Domestic partnerships are the appropriate way to ensure that people are treated fairly," the Giuliani campaign said in a written response to a question from the Sun. "In this specific case the law states same sex civil unions are the equivalent of marriage and recognizes same sex unions from outside states. This goes too far and Mayor Giuliani does not support it."
The Democratic governor of New Hampshire, John Lynch, has said publicly that he will sign the civil union law.
On a February 2004 edition of Fox News's "The O'Reilly Factor," Mr. Giuliani told Bill O'Reilly, when asked if he supported gay marriage, "I'm in favor of civil unions."
He also said, "Marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman." Asked by Mr. O'Reilly in the interview how he would respond to gay Americans who said being denied access to the institution of marriage violated their rights, Mr. Giuliani said: "That's why you have civil partnerships. So now you have a civil partnership, domestic partnership, civil union, whatever you want to call it, and that takes care of the imbalance, the discrimination, which we shouldn't have." In 1998, as mayor of New York City, Mr. Giuliani signed into law a domestic partnership bill that a gay rights group, the Empire State Pride Agenda, hailed as setting "a new national benchmark for domestic partner recognition."

Bush has said all along that he favors shamnesty and compassionate conservatism (ie, government spending). I'll give him that - he warned us about that aspect of his politics.
Rudy is trying to backtrack from his years of liberalism. But he cannot separate himself from his past.
See #16 where Guiliani says he would happily perform gay marriage ceremonies for his gay friends.
Besides, looking at the sum total of Guiliani's lies, distortions, and flip-flops, I couldn't care less what he said to Hannity, as I'd assume he was lying anyway, pandering to Hannity's audience. In that, at the very least, Guiliani is consistent.
I'll pick Duncan Hunter.
Well, I do try to be civil most, if all of the time at posting forums. Unless I’m going after Jewhating kooks that is, and in that case I can lose my cool. So if civility is a crime I’m guilty. You can impugn my conservative credentials and accuse me of bashing conservatives but but that does not make it so. I am among a group of conservative people, among them Ted Olson, who respect Rudy.
I’ve never been civil in my life to any freaking liberal who’s trying his utmost to destroy my country and rob me of my freedom. And I’m not about to start today. You want civility while pushing socialism? Go to DU. No one’s holding you here.
Not its not. Its what the Constitution requires. The federal government has no business in the whole matter.
Liar. You were just caught trashing and lying about Thompson a few posts up on this thread.
No, he supports the destruction of the Judeo-Christian institution of marriage by bestowing an identical "right" to homosexuals. Can you cite a SINGLE constitutional right that homosexuals are denied?
That also could prove that he's not a "power-hungry autocrat" as some here have charged
Unless you count his attempt to usurp New York state and municipal laws to extend his term of mayor after 9/11. In doing so, he employed the same "we can't hold an election until the crisis has passed" line that dictators have used throughout history.
Respecting Rudy is leagues away from trying to pass him off as a conservative.
Respect =/= Endorsement
Respect =/= Conservative Credentials
He turned New York around, but Giuliani has no business being the President. Period.
I posted links to every quote I highlighted. Hardly the tactics of a liar.
I’ll excuse Ted Olson, the man lost his wife to these islamo-fascist nutjobs so I’m sure he supports Rudy’s tough line against them, but there is much more to the presidency than being right on one issue, and I’m afraid that’s all Rudy has going for him.
When you use other liars (NewsMax???) to back you up, that doesn't make you less of a liar. You've been snidely attacking Thompson long enough that there is no reason for you to not have known that your "source" was disingenuous.
Liar. You posted incomplete and out of context smears. That’s a lying lib troll tactic. Proves who and what you are. You have a great contempt for conservatism and it shines through.
Nice job lifting a quote out of context, Veronica. Now, let's go to the transacript:

WALLACE: Gay rights.
THOMPSON: Gay rights? I think that we ought to be a tolerant nation. I think we ought to be tolerant people. But we shouldn't set up special categories for anybody.
And I'm for the rights of everybody, including gays, but not any special rights.
WALLACE: So, gay marriage? You're against. THOMPSON: Yes. You know, marriage is between a man and a woman, and I don't believe judges ought to come along and change that.
WALLACE: What about civil unions?
THOMPSON: I think that that ought to be left up to the states. I personally do not think that that is a good idea, but I believe in many of these cases where there's real dispute in the country, these things are not going to be ever resolved.
------------
But we shouldn't set up special categories for anybody.
Whereas Rudy pushed for gay hate crimes legislation. There is NO COMPARISON between Fred and Rudy once the details are presented. Just as there is NO COMPARISON between Fred and Rudy on abortion. And guns. And global warming. And...
PING!
I’m starting to think these Rudy supporters are a cult of some kind judging from their blind loyalty to the guy.
That's a rational post on the subject from your POV and I thank you for that.
So, just how many times can you crossdress before you're an official transvestive anyway?
And how many times can you cavort about, dancing close in the arms of another man, before people start waiting for you to come bursting out of the closet?
Yeah, it funny how they accuse the Thompson supporters of "celebrity worship", when, after all the records are looked at an examined, Thompson is a solid candidate because of his record and philosophy, and Guiliani is really just the "celebrity" candidate.
If it weren't so sad, it'd be amusing to watch these people's faces when Guiliani drops to irrelevance once the majority of folks see his real record and look beyond the "America's Mayor" myth and hype.
