Former Canyon County Commissioner Robert Vasquez said he is pulling out of the 2008 race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Larry Craig.
Vasquez told the Idaho Statesman Wednesday that he was not able to raise the money necessary to run in the GOP primary after conservative Republicans who pledged to support him pulled their financial backing.
"One needs to either sell their soul to win the campaign or have ready access to ample funds," Vasquez told the Statesman. "I'm not a rich guy; I'm just an average Joe."
Vasquez has been working full-time on his Senate bid, running a campaign based largely on his opposition to illegal immigration. His latest campaign report, covering contributions through the end of March, showed $1,877 in the bank, after making a $5,900 loan to his own campaign.
Vasquez, 57, of Caldwell, lost a six-way GOP primary against U.S. Rep. Bill Sali last May and announced his bid for Craig's seat before the November election.

Oh Robert, GET REAL! You might have gotten support if you hadn’t acted like a sore lozer.

With Vasquez, it’s always somebody else’s fault.
I happened to be in the room when he announced his idiotic candidacy. It was pathetic. He spent most of the time attacking the Republican nominee for Congress, Bill Sali - one of the finest, most decent, capable, men now in Congress.
Robert can go pound sand as far as I’m concerned. He’s not really a conservative anyway. He’s nothing but a cheap, mean, self-promoter.

Is Bill Sali anti-illegal immigration? Absolutely. 100%.
As opposed to Vasquez, to whom being a sore loser was more important than whether or not a leftwing, open borders, Democrat might have won that House seat.
Can you tell I have no use for the man?

If Vasquez ran for dogcatcher, I’d oppose him.
Even dogs don’t deserve him.

Good to hear that Sali won.
I love Idaho. My brother lives in Driggs. I always tell the liberals I meet that Idaho is full of skinheads.
To normal folks, I tell them the truth that Idaho is a beautiful place whose people harbor a healthy distrust of Government - a lot like most Southerners. I remember in the 2004 election that Idaho was called for Bush after 3% of the vote was counted.

What a joke! He says the Republican party doesn't agree with his opinions. Truth is in almost every case we agree on stands he takes on issues, really. Its his hatred for everyone who doesn't practically worship we don't agree with.
Except he is such an inmature brat, and such a sore loser.
Robert can be very charming and personally I do like him. I met with him, he promised to listen to me. When he heard what I had to say which started with public apologies for Bill Sali and Larry Craig, he refused. Too bad, he could have gone far, but let that chip on his shoulders rule.
5 Republican women, and 1 RINO ran for Congress. Only Bill Sali won, and 3 are still acting out in poor loserville. They all proved that it wasn't about us, but about "them" all along.

My brother lives in Driggs.
My granny was a midwife there, and my grandpa the sheriff in the early 1900's.
Thanks for helping us out. Keep telling those libs to stay away.

I still remember how bitter him and Sheila Sorenson were after they got snuffed out as RINOs.
And it leaves the door wide open (presumably) for Jim Risch to beat the snot out of Larry LaRocco again in yet another statewide race! :)

No way that was Sheila Sorenson.
