'Hate Crimes' Bill Moving to Full House [Critics call it a "thought crimes" bill..........]

'Hate Crimes' Bill Moving to Full House By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor April 26, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - The House Judiciary Committee passed a "hate crimes" bill Wednesday night, all 23 Democrats in favor, all 17 Republicans opposed. Every Republican attempt to amend the bill was defeated. Critics call it a "thought crimes" bill.

The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007 (H.R. 1592) would expand the federal definition of hate crimes to include violence against a person because of his or her "actual or perceived" sexual orientation or "gender identity."

Under the bill, people who attack others out of "hatred" for their race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability would be committing a federal offense.

The bill is now headed to the full House for a vote, probably next week.

Supporters of the bill, including homosexual activists, have described "hate crimes" as a pervasive problem. "The intentional selection and beating or murder of an individual because of who they are terrorizes an entire community and sometimes the nation," the Human Rights Campaign says on its website.

But conservatives say the bill would punish "thought," since most crimes are motivated by hatred. They say it offers special protection for certain groups.

"Despite what its advocates say, this is not about crime -- it's about special treatment," said the Family Research Council. "HR 1592 would further carve out 'tiers' of victims, putting more importance on crimes committed against a Rosie O'Donnell than against her next-door neighbor."

Baloney. Assault and battery is assault and battery. It doesn’t matter who you assault. To call it something else, by law, is just plain foolish.

Guaranteed, this would only have one way enforcement -

no homosexual would be charged with a hate crime of assaulting a hetero

no minority would be charged with a hate crime for assaulting a white male.

Is Bush going to Veto This?

There is no reason for Federal bill in this area, this is a state/local issue.

IMO, it also reduces the seriousness of the crime committed. When someone assaults a victim and we call it a hate crime, we take attention away from the fact that he assaulted someone and puts it on the racial identity of the victim. Not a good thing in a real criminal justice system.

"Im dumbfounded"

Gee, if you say your dumbfounded and I hit you then you could claim I did it because you are dumbfounded and it was a hate crime against dumbfounded peoples everywhere. Since I can't argue with this because it was all in my head I go to jail for committing a hate crime.

This is a "hate crime" in itself: it attacks normal, heterosexual, white, English-speaking, non-diabled Americans in what they are allowed to think and say.

Where's the Equal Protection in this Bill??????

THOUGHT CRIMES!

Welcome to the Post-Enlightenment! Truth be damned! Oppression is liberty! Censorship is freedom of speech! Conformity is diversity! Heterosexuality is perversion! Freedom of religion is racism! Logic is illogical! Groupthink is individuality!

George Orwell was a prophet! (He got the date wrong; that's all!)

More feel good nonsense just to pander to their base and the elite liberal snobs in the media and the intelligentsia. Do something to offend someone and a federal SWAT team will swoop in now to grad people and cart them off to prison, or “rehab,” or re-education camps. How frightening.

Perhaps the best satirical illustration of this sort of thing was done on South Park, of all places! I guess it was when Janet Reno was still AG since they trashed her pretty badly. Cartman makes a racial slur against another student, and the school and his mom punish him after he apologizes. Not goot enough though. Reno and a team of federal agents storm in and charge Cartman with a hate crime and he ends up in prison. It was a perfect illustration of the absurdity of this kind of legislation.

And NO Christian would ever get to say that homosexuality is a perversion.

They are expanding the definition of “protected class”.

This “protected class” crap started years ago with the Klan and the Civil RIghts movement and has snowballed into a monstrosity. Government operates by precedents and a bad precedent leads to worse consequences.

#7——true enough, one way enforcement—
minorities and homosexuals would ONLY get looked into as perps only after a couple thousand “crimes” against THEM were adjudicated, and that could continue on for another generation-—sort of like Al Sharpton’s promise to start taking rappers to task after he was allowed to help “bag” the big oafish prey of Don Imus. What all this group-think / thought crimes legislation (and it is exactly that-wish Orwell were around to see it) aims to achieve is the pampering and over-protection of “minority classes” of people to the extent where you are not even allowed the same latitude of behavior with them that you are allowed with “your own kind”. It would no longer be acceptable to tell a noisy Jamaican to “shut up” the way you would your fellow Caucasian, because you would only be saying that out of “racist impulses”, not because he was annoying you and everyone else as an obnoxious individual. This is the most dangerous trend now getting play in America.

H.R. 1592, is a declaration of war, against Christians, by the secular government, and violates our religious freedom. The Democommies, are doing the same thing the Nazis did to the Jews in prewar Germany. As an individual citizen, I personally will not comply with their tyrannical legislation. NO ONE is going to control MY THOUGHTS,EXPRESSION OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF, OR FREE SPEECH. The Democrat controlled congress can “Get Stuffed”! How’s that for a hate speech?
