It's absolutely crucial to the conservative pro life movement to block the pro choice, pro gay agenda Rudy Giuliani from obtaining the GOP nomination. It would kill the movement and ultimately destroy the credibility of the GOP.
Excerpts from the American Spectator:
The Real DealDon't be fooled. Don't betray your principles or the cause due to fear of Hillary and the moonbats. Would Ronald Reagan cower in fear and betray his principles?4/19/2007

"Despite the calls to leave litmus tests behind, pro-life Rudy reluctance is justified. If nominated, Giuliani would be the most pro-choice Republican presidential candidate in history. Even Gerald Ford, an archetypal Republican for choice, backed a constitutional amendment overturning Roe v. Wade during the 1976 campaign. Barry Goldwater, who was nominated before abortion became a national issue and outspokenly pro-choice in retirement, backed the human life amendment in his final Senate race."
"Giuliani has feted NARAL and Planned Parenthood. He has praised Margaret Sanger and repeatedly accused mainstream pro-lifers of wanting to put pregnant women in jail. His concessions to date have been minor and offered without enthusiasm."
"Abortion opponents can ill afford to give up their leverage in the GOP. Their position has little support among the cultural elite; many in the Republican establishment would like nothing better than to get beyond issues like that. If pro-lifers support Giuliani because he hates abortion, it will be difficult for them to criticize personally opposed Democrats like John Kerry in the future. Their campaign to get bishops to withhold communion from pro-choice Catholic Democrats will seem partisan and hypocritical. And the whole movement may be seen as less serious and less influential."

Keep the faith!!

T'wasn't I who was caught lying (ineptly) not once, but twice, little n00b -- the first time, regarding Reagan's stance on abortion; and the second time, on the liberal libertarian one, re: same. Right here, in full, humiliating public view.
And (the permanency of internet communications being what it is) not all your huffily ineffectual tantruming -- all delightfully red-faced, quiver-lipped indignation and girlish drumming of heels on the lineoleum notwithstanding -- can ever change that; nope, not even by so much as one measley, single iota.
Now: take two, and go have yourself a nice, quite little lie-down, muffin.
Perhaps due to the limitations of how many candidates we can include in the weekly FR polls, it might be interesting to start a vaniety thread asking freepers to rank all the Republican candidates in order of preference. This would not only tell us if Fred is #1, but also how liked or disliked Rudy is compared to the rest of the field.
For instance, here’s how I’d rank the candidates in order of preference:
ANNOUNCED CANDIDATES
1) Former Governor Tommy Thompson (R-Wisconsin)
2) Former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-Arkansas)
3) Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-California)
4) Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado)
5) Former Governor Jim Gilmore (R-Virginia)
6) US Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kansas)
7) Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-Massachusetts)
8) Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas)
9) US Senator John McCain (R-Arizona)
10) Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (R-New York)
ANNOUNCED & POTENTIAL CANDIDATES
1) Former Governor Tommy Thompson (R-Wisconsin)
2) Former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-Arkansas)
3) Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-California)
4) Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado)
5) Former Governor Jim Gilmore (R-Virginia)
6) Former US Senator Fred Thompson (R-Tennessee)
7) US Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kansas)
8) Former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia)
9) Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas)
10) US Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska)
11) US Senator John McCain (R-Arizona)
12) Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (R-New York)
13) Former Governor George Pataki (R-New York)
As you can see, I rank Rudy just about dead last, I’d even vote for McCain over him if I had to. Fred ends up right in the middle of my list, like John Kasish did in 2000. Tommy Thompson is my #1. In the earlier FR poll that included Tommy, it also had several candidates that since that time have said they’re not running (one was Tim Pawlenty, I was on his bandwagon, but have since switched my support to Tommy)
Whether Fred announces or not, I hope conservatives can unite around the goal of ABR (Anyone But Rudy)
.
Interesting to read this in the American Spectator.
This is absolutely right. Like several conservatives Antle mentions, I was willing to wait and see what Rudy would say. Well, now he has said it.
Regretably, I simply CANNOT vote for a pro-abortion Republican if Rudy gets the nomination. I understand that that would be disastrous, because it might lead to an even worse Democrat like hillary getting elected.
Too bad. I simply would have no choice. Because electing a pro-abortion Republican would set back the pro-life cause for another twenty or thirty years. That’s simply out of the question.
I am sure that many others will feel the same way, both conservative Catholics and Evangelicals. In fact, I would guess that Rudy would probably end up losing 20 or 30 million Evangelical votes and thus risk destroying the conservative coalition.
The obvious answer is that Rudy must not be nominated. Because there’s no way in hell that people are going to swallow their principles to that extent. No way.
The right to life is the most basic issue of all, from a religious, a moral, and a constitutional perspective. You can’t enjoy any of your other rights if you are killed before you are born. And the fallout from this kind of thinking has perverted all of our other laws as well, producing a generation of tyrannical judges.
No, it won't. That is nonsense. The USA has had some horrible presidents, including one named Clinton who had two terms to destroy our country, yet it still stands. Saying "I'm prolife BUT . . . " and then giving us this kind of propaganda to scare us into supporting Rudy is a trick that has gotten real old around here.
My Fetus, I mean sister(7th month preemie) will not VOTE for Rudy.. even if he told much bigger lies..
By all means, vote your preferences. That’s what the voting is, or ought to be, about. And I will be voting mine.
I could never vote for Rudy and am amazed that conservative pro-life talk show hosts are becoming Rudy cheerleaders!
Your actions must back up your words.
IMHO, supporting Rudy signifies that you care less about life and more about political power.
I would NEVER vote for Rudy and i’m pro life. It is a litmus test for me -
Excellent and thank you.
Marty Markowitz sponsors all those weekly free concerts on Coney Island. We saw Liza Minelli and Sophia Loren last year, and MAN, is Marty pleased with himself when he gives speeches! He’s the personification of glad-handing pol.
Ed
Marty had a tough life. I don’t believe the guy has ever been to Manhattan.
It’s absolutely critical FOR THE GOP to stop Giuliani unless they want to abandon being the pro-life party.
A campaign between Giuliani and Clinton? - A more worthless choice for America cannot even be imagined.
