Hunter fares well with GOP group

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter scored high in a recent straw poll of members of the California Republican Assembly, a conservative group of volunteers that Ronald Reagan once called the "conscience" of the Republican Party.

Hunter, R-El Cajon, spoke to a gathering of the group in Orange County last week and drew 22 votes or 19 percent of the ballots cast in the poll, tying him with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Coming in first in the poll was a man not even officially in the race, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who drew 28 votes. Thompson is considering entering the GOP field.

"I am grateful to the conservatives for giving my campaign a huge boost," Hunter said in a prepared statement released by his campaign. "I believe I stand for the principles that are important to the families of America."

Hunter also won a straw poll in Anderson County, S.C., last week. He has been concentrating much of his effort in South Carolina, an early primary state in the 2008 presidential race.

The whole celebrity thing has consumed much of the GOP, apparently. Instead of picking the viable, best conservative and shouting his name from the mountain tops, too many here, and in conservative media, have taken the early name recognition polls to heart as the indicator of who should be supported.

Might be part of the reason we have been tagged “The Stupid Party”.

It’s time to change that by not only talking Conservative but acting Conservative.

Hunter is consistent.

I’ll take another 8 years of Bush over anything the “big 3” have to offer.

He’s getting my vote.

When is it his turn for the week on YouTube? I have a question or two to ask him.

Take this little survey, it’s fun!!

You state your views on certain issues and it tells you which candidate is in line for you!

Send your questions to his son Duncan Hunter Ambassador right here on this thread, or you can freepmail him.

It takes awhile for him to answer, but he has been trying.

I’d be tickled pink to see either combo in the WH.
