This is the kind of stupid crap that causes the GOP to lose voters. People don't like being told that they can't do stuff that is nobody else's business but theirs.
To: Rodney King
Wow, they have been in session for months now and this is the first thing they did that made any sense.

"Why anyone thinks it is any of my business why some adult wants to gamble is absolutely beyond me," Frank told a community bankers group conference. Sorry GOP, he's correct.

That was a stupid issue for the Republicans to take up. It has done nothing but hurt them.

No fan of Barney Frank here either, but it was ridiculous for Frist to get involved in this. What a dopey move.

On things like this, I have to agree.
The Pubbies are bad about trying control certain aspects of peoples’ lives.
This bill should never have gotten out of Congress. Bush should never have signed it.

I suspect US casinos etc. were behind the first bill.

It becomes my business when they lose everything through their stupidity of thinking they can actually win something for nothing. Then they are on the public dole and have to be supported by my taxes. If they want to risk losing everything, that’s fine. Just don’t ask me to bail you out when it all goes down the toilet. If you insist on this behavior, don’t be surprised if you are not on the street begging for food.

The GOP passes stupid bills like this, while Dems pass bills to prohibit people from smoking inside their own home/business. Yet, only one party seems to be tagged with trying to regulate personal private behavior...

So when your child runs up $20,000 in credit card debt at one of those online poker sites, you’ll be fine with it?

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (news, bio, voting record) on Wednesday said he will introduce a bill this week to lift a ban on online gambling. There never was a ban on online gambling.
The bill made it a crime for financial institutions to allow funding through the financial institution between an individual and an online gambling company.
I don't know how many times I've had to point out this distinction.

I suspect US casinos etc. were behind the first bill. That may be. But, there are the millions of online gamblers who may not be involved with politics at all, but now will vote Dem. I have a friend who plays poker 16 hours a day online. That is his career. He is very good at it.

So when your child runs up $20,000 in credit card debt at one of those online poker sites, youll be fine with it?If it's on their own credit card, yes, I'll be fine on it.
If it's on MY credit card, I've got more problems than that to look after, like beating my child silly for stealing from me.
