Bomb threat closes Lakeland School District (Idaho)

Superintendent Charles Kinsey has announced that the Lakeland School District in Rathdrum, Idaho is closed Wednesday due to a bomb threat.

When staff arrived at Athol Elementary to begin their work day, they found a note on the door with the threat; notes were also found at other schools in the district. The notes made threats to two schools, but did not specifically name the schools.

According to Captain Ben Wolfinger, the Kootenai County Explosive Recognition Team will be inspecting several schools in the district through the course of the day. They will be looking for anything that looks out of place or does not belong in the school.

The schools they will be focusing on are three in Rathdrum, two in Spirit Lake and one each in Athol and Garwood.

Based on the threats, Superintendent Kinsey made the decision to close the schools for the day.

My second grader is missing school today because of this. At first glance, it looks like a typical case of some little delinquent trying to get out of going to school. But the fact that notes were left at various schools in the district is somewhat worrisome. These shools are spread out over a large area, it's not likely it was some kid on his bike.

Watched the Sheriff do a demonstration with their K-9 unit last weekend - it was amazing. I am sure that dog will find anything, if there is anything to be found. Would love to see it track down and get ahold of the perp.
